Florida friends! Did you know we are voting on recreational ma*****na use this November? Be sure you are registered to vote so that you can participate in this important civic duty. Ma*****na is proven to be wayyy less harmful than alcohol and so many of our fellow citizens are sitting behind bars for the possession/use of a PLANT.

According to research, four out of five drug related arrests in 2005 were for the use or possession of illegal narcotics and not the sale of them. That means that ADDICTS are being targeted for utilizing the only thing that may be keeping them alive.

The bogus War on Drugs failed miserably and lately contributed to why the US prison population is the largest population of incarcerated individuals in recorded history. Despite the increasing incarceration rates, addiction rates are also sky rocketing and over dose rates are devastating communities.

OEC is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for those leaving prison and who may also struggle with substance abuse.

Please consider making a donation today via zelle or Gofundme. Or please share our page to spread the word and the desperate need for services for those coming out of the corrections system.

Are you familiar with drug court?
Drug court involves combining traditional legal processes with treatment for substance abuse. Eligible participants (generally nonviolent offenders) begin drug court by agreeing to successfully complete the program which will then result in lesser or dropped charges. Aspects of the program include regular drug testing, attendance at treatment appointments, as well as appearing before the court on a regular basis. The entire process generally takes one year from start to finish and usually involves a variety of steps that the participant advances through.
Research is showing that drug court is an effective way to combat recidivism and usually has great success for those who participate. 👏🏻

It’s summer in Florida which means extreme heat. This also means that for thousands of Florida inmates, they are expected to ride out the summer months with no air conditioning. One inmate reached out to me to let me know that the dormitories are so hot the officers won’t go in them and the walls are literally sweating. These men are expected to share one fan for up to 86 people. This is beyond an outrage and is entering into human rights violation. We would never allow an animal shelter to go without AC- why don’t we provide the same consideration for humans? Please, please share this post in hopes that it reaches the right person who can help make some changes. ☀️☀️☀️
