Four generations of Black Southerners came together to talk honestly about HIV. POZ reports that the conversation grew from GLAAD's 2026 HIV Stigma Report, which found a widening knowledge gap even as prevention and treatment have advanced. Participants emphasized that silence, shame and inaccurate information still keep people from testing and care. Intergenerational conversations can help communities replace stigma with knowledge, empathy and action.

DAY 11 CHECK-IN… HOW ARE WE REALLY DOING?📚
We’re officially 11 days into the school year, and now that the first-week excitement has settled down, we want to check in.

🎒 Parents, how are the kids doing?
Are they adjusting to their new teachers and routines?
Are they excited about school or already feeling overwhelmed?
Do they have the supplies and everyday essentials they need?

🍎Teachers and school staff, how are YOU doing?
Have you settled into your classrooms?
Are there supplies you’re already running low on?
Are you seeing needs among your students that our community could help with?
And parents… how are YOU holding up? Because getting everybody up, dressed, fed, packed and out the door deserves its own award! 😂🙌🏽

At Light House of Hope Safe Spot Inc., we know support shouldn’t stop after the first day of school. Sometimes needs don’t show up until the school year gets going.

🤱🏽AUGUST IS NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING MONTH! 🤱🏽

At TOPWA, we believe every mom deserves education, support, and encouragement when making decisions about feeding her baby. 💕

Breastfeeding can provide many wonderful benefits for both mom and baby, including important nutrition, bonding, and immune support. However, every mom and every baby is different, and breastfeeding may not be the best choice for every family.

Before deciding between breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or a combination, we encourage you to talk with your doctor and your baby’s pediatrician. Together, you can discuss your individual health needs and determine the safest and healthiest feeding option for you and your baby.

Whether your journey includes breast milk, formula, or both, what matters most is that baby is fed, mom is supported, and both are receiving the care they need.

TOPWA is here to support you throughout your pregnancy and beyond with education, resources, referrals, and most importantly, without judgment.

Proposed funding cuts could weaken HIV prevention and care in the United States while global programs are already facing serious disruption. POZ reviews a House budget proposal that would eliminate major CDC prevention funding and reduce support for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. The article also connects domestic pressure with instability affecting PEPFAR and other global services. Funding decisions are still moving through the political process, but community organizations and people who rely on care need clear information about what is at stake.

The Trump administration is seeking deep cuts to funding for HIV prevention and services.

🤱🏽💗 AUGUST IS NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING MONTH! 💗🤱🏽

This month, TOPWA recognizes National Breastfeeding Month by celebrating and supporting our moms as they prepare to make important decisions for themselves and their babies. 💕

Breastfeeding has many benefits for both mom and baby; however, every mother and every pregnancy is different. What works best for one family may not be what is best for another and that is okay.

As you prepare for your baby's arrival, we encourage you to talk with your doctor or healthcare provider about breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Together, you can discuss your health, your baby's needs, medications, personal circumstances, and other factors to determine the safest and most beneficial feeding option for you and your baby.

💗 Make an informed decision with your healthcare team.
🌸 And most importantly give yourself grace along the way.

Aging can open new space for joy, visibility and self-expression. In this POZ excerpt, former New York state Senator and long-term HIV survivor Tom Duane reflects on the teal highlights he now wears proudly and the freedom to be fully himself. His story is a warm reminder that older LGBTQ+ people and long-term survivors deserve to be seen as vibrant, evolving people. Personal stories like this can help challenge the idea that aging means becoming less visible.

In “Freedom to Be Fabulous,” former New York state Senator Tom Duane encourages fellow long-term survivors to shine boldly at any age.

A once-monthly oral HIV prevention pill is now in promising Phase III trials. POZ reports that the candidate, alimatravir (also known as MK-8527), could add another prevention option if it proves safe, effective and receives regulatory approval. UNAIDS says early planning for affordable pricing, generic manufacturing and equitable access will be essential, including partnerships with manufacturers in Africa. This is an investigational candidate, not an approved medication or a recommendation to change anyone's care.

If proved effective, UNAIDS highlights that speed, affordability and equitable access will be critical.

HIV prevention information belongs in everyday media where people can encounter it without shame. Positively Aware reports that advocates are urging Paramount and TV Land to continue airing the “Get PrEP Wisdom” campaign after a conservative group organized a petition against the ad. The 15-second commercial features Michelle Visage discussing differences among injectable PrEP options without naming a product, HIV, sexuality or sexual activity. The article describes competing advocacy campaigns and did not report a final decision by Paramount about the commercial.

HIV prevention advocates are urging public support for an open letter encouraging Paramount Global to continue airing a PrEP campaign commercial despite a petition launched by a conservative group.

This month, we celebrate, educate, and support mothers throughout their breastfeeding journey. Whether that journey lasts a few days, a few months, a year, or looks different than expected every mother deserves to feel supported, encouraged, and respected.

Breastfeeding can provide important health benefits for both mom and baby, but we also recognize that every family’s journey is unique. What matters most is that mothers have access to accurate information, compassionate support, and the resources they need to make the best feeding decisions for themselves and their babies.

💗 Encourage a mom.
🤱🏽 Support her journey.
💗 Respect her choices.
🤱🏽 Remind her that she doesn’t have to do it alone.

Because when we support mothers, we help build healthier babies, stronger families, and thriving communities.
