Every year, our team is honored to recognize the efforts of eight high school seniors with a scholarship award to help them start their journey into higher education. This week, our Business Operations Manager Abbie Easter had the opportunity to lead a LiDAR and Photogrammetry workshop for Sanford Middle School students! Students learned about LiDAR scanning, photogrammetry, and structured light scanning and were able to practice with each of these methods to create 3D models of their classroom and tools. Our DoD STARBASE Central Florida teams competed in the SeaPerch Regional competition last Saturday! The Marine Mavericks, Tech Turtles, and Mighty Thunder teams showed off their skills and worked together to advance through the competition challenges. Their hard work practicing all semester paid off with both the Tech Turtles and Mighty Thunder teams advancing to the International SeaPerch competition! The DoD SBCFL team is beyond proud of the work these students have put in and we are excited to support them at the international competition! 🌊

This week, DoD STARBASE CFL welcomed Florida Virtual School students and educators into the lab! Students participated in STEAM-focused activities that applied knowledge from their current curriculum while also challenging them to think outside the box from a modeling and simulation perspective. Thank you to the Florida Virtual School Foundation team for coordinating and supporting this program for FLVS students! 🚀

The Knights Satellite Club (KSC) had the privilege of hosting a beginner-friendly soldering workshop at the DoD STARBASE Central Florida Learning Lab on March 11th. Members of KSC had the opportunity to hone their soldering skills by working on a take-home MIC Sound Controlled LED board, where the sensors detect small vibrations and convert the energy into powering the LEDS. With the help of the DoD SBCFL team, members learned proper safety procedures for soldering inside enclosed spaces with duct fans and safety glasses. Tyler, an intern at DoD STARBASE Central Florida and the Secretary for KSC, and Swami, a project manager for KSC, were the instructors for the soldering workshop.
