Join us for a Vigil for Immigration Justice, led by Associate Conference Minister Rev. LaTrell Harrison.

As people of faith, we are called to stand with our neighbors and affirm the sacred worth and dignity of every person. Together, we will gather in prayer and solidarity against the inhumane and unjust treatment of immigrants, asylum seekers, and families seeking safety and opportunity.

When any part of the Body of Christ tells people that God's call has limits, we are called to remember the stories Scripture keeps telling.

God called Miriam to lead.
God called Deborah to judge.
God called Esther to act.
God called Mary Magdalene to proclaim the resurrection.
God called Priscilla to teach.
God called countless women to nurture, guide, and strengthen the Church.

As the Southern Baptist Convention once again affirmed restrictions on women serving as pastors, we reaffirm something different: God's call is not determined by gender.

The Church does not bestow God's calling. It recognizes it. And for generations, women have faithfully preached, pastored, taught, and transformed lives through the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we create barriers where God has created gifts, we risk mistaking our traditions for God's will.

At the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ, we celebrate all whom God calls to ministry. We believe the Spirit still speaks, still calls, and still equips people of every gender to lead God's Church.

"There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus." - Galatians 3:28

Ten years ago today, our state was changed forever.

We remember the 49 beloved children of God whose lives were taken at Pulse nightclub shooting. We remember the survivors, the families, the first responders, and all who still carry the weight of that night.

Scripture tells us that "the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it."

For ten years, the people of Orlando have lived those words. In the face of hatred, we chose love. In the face of violence, we chose community. In the face of grief, we found ways to keep showing up for one another.

As followers of Christ, we do not honor this anniversary by remembering tragedy alone. We honor it by recommitting ourselves to the sacred work of creating a world where every person knows they are beloved, where LGBTQ+ people can live openly and safely, and where God's extravagant welcome is more than a slogan. It is a way of life.

Today we pray. We remember. We grieve. We give thanks for lives that continue to inspire us.
May the memory of the 49 be eternal. May God's comfort surround all who mourn. And may we never stop building a world where love has the final word.

β€œThy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Many Christians have been taught to spend their lives worrying about how to get into heaven.

Jesus seemed far more interested in teaching people how to live as if heaven were breaking into the world around them.

He fed hungry people. He healed sick people. He welcomed those society rejected. He challenged religious and political powers that burdened the vulnerable. He spoke of a kingdom where the last would be first and where love of neighbor was inseparable from love of God.

If our faith does not move us to confront injustice, care for those who are suffering, and build communities where every person is treated with dignity, then what exactly are we preparing for?

The Gospel is not an evacuation plan. It is an invitation to participate in God's transformation of the world.

Not someday.
Now.

The prayer Jesus taught is not, "Get us out of here." It is: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

May we spend less time trying to secure our place in heaven and more time helping our neighbors experience a glimpse of it here on earth.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

One of the most beautiful things about God's creation is that it was never designed to be monochrome.

Take a look outside: oceans, sunsets, wildflowers, birds, and even Florida's famous evening skies. Creation is full of color, diversity, and wonder. Why would humanity be any different?

This Pride Month, the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ celebrates our LGBTQ+ siblings and gives thanks for the gifts, leadership, faith, and love they bring to our churches and communities.

We know that for many people, finding a church where they are fully welcomed has not always been easy. That's why we continue to proclaim a simple but powerful message: there is room for you here.

Not because we all look alike.
Not because we all think alike.
But because God's love is bigger than our differences and stronger than our fears.

So this June, may we celebrate the diversity of God's people, continue the work of justice and inclusion, and remember that every person is created in the image of God.

Happy Pride Month from the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ. 🌈
