BSA Troop 48 - Orlando, FL Archived page for Troop 48 in Orlando, at the Lake Highland Presbyterian Church. Due to Covid, and its impact on our troop, Troop 48 was formally closed.

This troop was one of the oldest in Orlando. "The Great 48." Please join another great BSA troop!

Sadly, this troop closed its doors during Covid quarantines in 2020. My son then joined Troop 424 and got his Eagle rank, and we can recommend that troop from personal experience. It's located in Audubon Park area, just north of downtown. There are many other troops that remained open, and I wish you luck!

We had our last meeting of 2019 this past Tuesday where we honored two scouts who have reached Life Scout rank, and two who ranked to First Class. Congrats! We also had a holiday party with food, and gift exchange game, and our traditional cellophane ball gift surprise game :) Some will make it to winter camp, but for everyone else, see you January 7th! Be ready to work on Family Life merit badge, and present your idea on a family service project.

We turned in our recharter agreement with all the other troops in the Colonial District, and Troop 48 continues! We achieved "Gold" status for last year, which means we reached certain benchmarks for recruitment, camping, involvement, etc. Looking forward to the next 12 months.

Factoid: Orlando Mayer Carl Langford was the first Tenderfoot and then the first Eagle Scout from Troop 48 in the 1930s. He was also the first Distinguished Eagle Scout in the Central Florida Council.

November 6th:
We threw a BBQ dinner for our host church, Park Lake Presbyterian Church, to show our appreciation for their support. The scouts demonstrated what you do in various medical emergencies, like being bitten by a snake while camping or hiking, and how to remove tick. The Scout leaders got help from the scouts to flip the burgers, and fun was had by all.
