This past Sunday, I had the privilege of attending the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Installation Ceremony. On behalf of the OCVFA, we extend our warmest and most sincere congratulations to Bill Owen on his well-deserved election as the next president. This is happening everywhere. If you see something, say something.

The Rome Fire Department is saddened and disappointed to report the recent theft of over 20 bronze gravestone markers honoring our deceased firefighters from Rome Cemetery, St. Mary’s Cemetery, and St. John’s Cemetery.

These markers represent the service, sacrifice, and dedication of the men who served our community with pride. Their removal is not only theft, but a disrespectful act against the memory of those who dedicated their lives to protecting others.

A police report has been filed. If anyone has any information regarding these thefts, please contact the Rome Police Department.

We ask our community to remain vigilant and help us restore these memorials honoring our fallen brothers.
