RIP 4-H alumna Dolly Parton ๐Ÿ’šโ˜˜๏ธ

Today we mourn the loss of an American icon, a beloved philanthropist and a proud 4-H alumna, Dolly Parton. Her extraordinary life was defined not only by her incredible talent, but by her unwavering generosity, compassion and commitment to helping others.

For generations of young people, Dolly embodied what it means to use your gifts in service of others. From her roots in 4-H to her lifelong investment in literacy, education and community, she showed us that true leadership is grounded in humility, kindness, and purpose. As Dolly once said, "storms make trees take deeper roots." ๐Ÿ’š

A proud 4-H alumna, she reminded us that challenges can strengthen us and help us grow. That wisdom will continue to inspire young people and communities for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the millions whose lives she touched. Her legacy of hope, generosity, and service will live on. ๐Ÿ€

Utah 4-Hโ€™s Cowboy Camp celebrated its 5th anniversary this year from July 7-9 in Tropic. Cowboy Camp is an agricultural literacy initiative developed by Heather Thomson, a Utah 4-H Program Coordinator. The mission of Cowboy Camp is to increase agricultural literacy by providing young people with a pathway to future agricultural involvement through their own interests and unique angles of advocacy; whether that be the future producer who raises food, an engineer who designs machinery to harvest it, a lawmaker who creates legislation to support agriculture, or as an informed consumer.

This year, thirty-five 4-H youth campers from across the state gathered in Bryce Canyon and were able to explore agriculture through a variety of activities, including a mock 4-H Envirothon and a guided mule ride by Mecham Outfitters through Willis Creek Narrows.

โ€œI started Cowboy Camp to give the next generation the same opportunities I was afforded growing up. As producers, itโ€™s our responsibility to develop an agriculturally literate society. Itโ€™s rewarding watching the youth campers learn how agriculture touches every part of their lives, and grow in their confidence to enter the conversation and become advocates for this industry,โ€ said Thomson.
