OEA Endorses Caleb Bush for Area III Seat

Caleb Bush comes from a family of educators, and has served on the Oregon School District Board for
almost three years. He is running for re-election to keep Oregon’s schools strong, growing, and vibrant, and to continue providing an exceptional education to each and every child. He believes in collaborative leadership, working with the school board to support students, teachers, staff, and administrators in their pursuit of the highest-quality public education. He is proud that our schools meet and often exceed expected benchmarks, our teachers innovate in curriculum and instruction, and our students excel both inside and outside the classroom. Caleb takes the responsibility of being a steward of taxpayer dollars seriously, with OSD remaining financially sound amidst challenging economic conditions during his time on the school board. As the Oregon region grows, he is excited to empower our schools to meet the changing needs of students, families, and communities.

An educator himself for over twenty years, Caleb is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, Rock County. He earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from the State University of New York - Binghamton in 2005. His spouse, Liz, also works in education, and they are both strong advocates for public schools. Outstanding schools and strong community support for education played a decisive role in their decision to move to the Oregon area, and their family has lived in Brooklyn for a decade. Caleb and Liz have two children, who both attended Brooklyn Elementary and who still attend Oregon public schools at the middle school and the high school.

OEA Endorses Matt Ledbetter for Area I Seat

Matt Ledbetter is running uncontested for the Oregon School Board in Area I, which encompasses the Village of Oregon. He is the parent to two boys at Netherwood Knoll Elementary, and has lived in Oregon for 6 years. His family moved to Oregon specifically because of the excellent reputation of the local public schools. Matt has worked with healthcare organizations for more than a decade, helping to evaluate policy and make long term decisions. He is excited to help the district continue its good work serving Oregon students and families. He understands how complex the school district can be to run, and wants to focus on helping the Oregon community understand all of the good that the schools do and how the community’s support (financial and otherwise) is being used effectively by the district.

OEA Endorses Heather Garrison for Area II Seat

Heather Garrison is running for a third term representing Area II and all Oregon families and students on the Oregon School Board. She has been a strong voice on the school board in support of teachers, providing leadership on the cell phone policy update (School Board Policy 771) and the decision to commit additional time for teachers to analyze student work and improve instruction in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) while minimizing disruptions to Oregon families. She is grateful to our community and all OSD employees. Over the past six years, Heather has consistently centered the development of the whole child and kept equity at the forefront of board conversations. Having completed a successful superintendent search, this year Heather is committed to thoughtfully planning what is next for OSD in terms of facilities, growth, and evolving needs of students, staff, and families. Heather’s children attend Forest Edge Elementary School and Oregon Middle School, and she is committed to continuing to work alongside OSD educators and staff to serve all Oregon kids and families.
