πŸ’™This week is National Prevention Week β€” a time to recognize the power of prevention, education, connection, and community.πŸ’š

At Oregon City Together, we know prevention starts long before there’s a crisis. It starts with helping young people feel connected, supported, informed, and empowered to make healthy choices.

Throughout the year, we partner with students, schools, families, and community organizations to address the issues impacting youth today β€” including mental health, fentanyl and other drugs, va**ng, and technology overuse.

From student-led campaigns like *Don’t Bear the Load Alone* to community forums and prevention education, we’re working together to build a healthier future for Oregon City youth. πŸ»πŸ’¬

Prevention works. Connection matters. And together, we can make a difference.

We are always looking for compassionate community members to join our efforts...adults and students!

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to the winners of our Know the Risk Student Video & Poster Contest! πŸŽ‰

We were blown away by the creativity, honesty, and powerful prevention messages shared by students across our community.

This year’s contest focused on three important topics facing young people today:

🧠 Youth Mental Health
🚭 Va**ng/Nicotine Awareness
πŸ’Š Fentanyl & Other Drug Awareness

Students used their voices, talents, and lived experiences to create impactful posters and videos that educate, inspire, and encourage healthy choices. In total, we received an incredible 114 poster entries and 3 video submissions!

Thank you to every student who participated, our judges, school staff, and community supporters who helped make this project possible. Prevention works best when youth are part of the conversation β€” and these students proved just how powerful their voices can be. πŸ’™

πŸ‘ Join us in celebrating our winners and all the students who helped shine a light on these important issues!
And, the winners are:

Tech Overuse = Kyra (Tumwata), Brinley-Briley-Amilli-Jesslynn-Variety (Tumwata), Aysa (Gardiner)

Pierre the Bear was out at OCHS this morning sharing mental health messages, fun stickers and squeezie bears for .

This campaign was created by students to encourage connection, reduce stigma around mental health, and remind you that support is always available. Sometimes the smallest moments β€” a laugh, a hug, a conversation, a silly bear dancing before school β€” can make a big difference in someone’s day.

Next Pierre appearance: May 22 before school at OCHS. Be there!

Check out this VERY important announcement from OCTV about our upcoming youth mental health campaign kick-off at OCHS this Friday at 8 am. During the month of May - Mental Health Awareness Month - we'll be sharing student-created messages and materials.

Ms. Jeffrey's Sociology class partnered with Oregon City Together to create their campaign, Don't Bear The Load Alone, to remind their peers that no matter how stressful school or life gets, they are never alone. It's always OK to ask for help!

Our portion of the video starts at 6:49.
