Good afternoon neighbors, here some timely information and advice from our friends at Clackamas County Vector Control.
As summer comes to an end, Clackamas County Vector Control District (CCVCD) encourages residents to think about fall yard cleanup. A few simple steps can help reduce mosquito breeding sites around your home.
Eliminate Standing Water
Mosquitoes require water during the first three stages of their life cycle. Eliminate the water, and mosquitoes can’t reproduce in your yard.
The challenging part is that even a bottle cap full of water can provide enough water for mosquitoes to breed. Common yard items such as sandboxes, wagons, and plastic toys can collect water. Be sure to check:
Plant saucers
Pet water bowls
Gutters
Areas beneath downspouts
Toys and outdoor containers
Wheelbarrows, wagons, and other items that can collect rainwater
Keep Firewood Off the Ground
Stack firewood off the ground and allow good airflow between the pieces of wood. This helps reduce areas where mosquitoes can rest and hide.
