RHABDOMYOSARCOMA 🎗️

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare childhood cancer that develops in soft tissues. For Cora, her tumor is located on the right side of her face.

But this is not really a post about rhabdomyosarcoma.

It’s a post about Cora.

And, in many ways, it’s a post about all of the children we’ve introduced to you this month.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve shared their diagnoses.

Different diagnoses.
Different treatments.
Different battles.

But behind every single one is a child.

We started this series because childhood cancer can so easily become a statistic.

They don’t tell you about the 25+ children whose lives have intersected with Ray of Hope Portraits.

These are the faces behind childhood cancer.

And this is why awareness matters.

Because when you know their names,
when you see their faces,
when you hear their stories…

childhood cancer stops being something that happens to someone else’s child.

It becomes personal.

So as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we don’t want you to remember the diagnoses.

We want you to remember the kids.

And remember why we keep showing up.

For our kids. Always. 🔆

MEDULLOBLASTOMA 🎗️

Medulloblastoma is a fast-growing brain tumor that begins in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that helps control balance and coordination.

But for LeeAnn, medulloblastoma isn’t just a diagnosis.

Cancer has taken so much from her.

Before cancer, LeeAnn was an incredible athlete. She was active, strong, and living the life of a normal teenager.

Today, even though she has beaten cancer, she is still fighting every day to regain what it has tried to take from her.

The finish line of treatment did not mean that everything went back to the way it was before.

And I think that’s something we don’t talk about enough. Survivorship can be complicated.

LeeAnn is one of the most incredible girls you’ll meet. We are cheering her on as she goes through her senior year, working harder than anyone knows.

We see you and we love you, Lee Ann!

Our favorite whale-loving princess finished her treatment and is RINGING the BELL today!!!!

We are sooooo proud of you, Haddie!!!! The whole PNW and all the whales are cheering for you! 🐳

🎗️ Bone/Soft Tissue Cancer 🎗️

Childhood bone cancer is rare, as it accounts for 3-5% of all childhood cancers.

Sophia bravely faced Osteosarcoma, which immediately drew us to her. (ROHP was created in honor of Sara Swenson, who also battled Osteosarcoma)

Hadley battled Ewing Sarcoma, and Camila is currently facing Ewing Sarcoma for the 2nd time.

Three children.
Three different journeys.
Three kids who have forever changed us 🔆

🎗️ NEUROBLASTOMA 🎗️

Maybe you’ve heard the word before.
Maybe you haven’t.

Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, and it almost always appears early. Most kids are diagnosed before age 5.

But we don’t want you to remember it because of a definition.

We want you to remember it because of these four kids.

Four kids who are so much more than the word neuroblastoma.

And they are so loved.

This month, we’re putting faces to childhood cancer.

Because behind every diagnosis is a child who deserves to be known for who they are—not just what they’re fighting.

Leukemia is the most common type of childhood cancer—and it’s not just one diagnosis. There are different types and subtypes, each with their own treatment journeys, challenges, victories, and stories.

But today, we don’t want to focus on the diagnosis.

We want you to meet the 16 kids behind these diagnoses.

Sixteen kids who have forever changed those of us who have witnessed their strength, courage, and joy.

Their diagnoses may have changed their childhoods, but cancer is not who they are.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re introducing you to the faces behind the statistics.

Because these aren’t just numbers.

For the little girl underneath the princess dress.

For the boy dreaming about the football field.

For the siblings standing beside them.

For the parents fighting battles no parent should ever have to fight.

For the children whose childhoods have been interrupted by cancer.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month—and we’re not just raising awareness.

We’re raising hope.

We’re creating magic.

We’re giving kids moments to remember.

We’re reminding families that even in the hardest seasons, they are not alone.

Let’s help them feel seen and give them hope this September!
