What a great first night of matches for Oregon youth wrestling at the OSAA Wrestling Championships held at the Portland Veterans Memorial Coliseum!! We are always grateful to the OSAA for providing the forum for us to make these valued presentations. Each year, it is always inspiring to witness the commitment of the wrestlers, the sportsmanship, the support of the coaches, parents, families, and statewide fans of these outstanding athletes. They represent the best of the best, as they showcased the discipline, perseverance, and passion for this amazing sport that Tyrone loved so much. He often said that without his wrestling background at Oregon City HS, he may not have passed through BUD/s training.

Wrestling demands so much from these kids and they answer that demand with heart, soul, hard work, and a never quit attitude. A special attribute of this sport is that it is a big tent and there is room for everyone. Whatever your size, you have a place in wrestling. We at TSWWF could not imagine when we created the nonprofit in 2015 that we would be here more than 10 years later providing financial assistance to these phenomenal athletes. We have a very hard-working volunteer board of directors who freely devote their time and energy to supporting our mission to help provide financial assistance so these youth athletes so they can participate on a team. We are so very proud to have the continuing resources from our donors, individual and business, so we can present the memorial trophies and scholarships to these amazing senior girl and boy wrestlers (Go to https:// www.tswwf.org to see names of prior awardees). They are selected for their stellar wrestling, academic, and citizenship achievements as well as their 250-word essays explaining what wrestling and Tyrone's sacrifice have meant to them. Every year we are greatly impressed and encouraged with the caliber of the applicants. We know Tyrone would be amazed with each applicant and their commitment to this great sport.

Last night in center court we presented the 2026 TSW Memorial Trophies to Brody Buzzard, Marist Academy, wrestling for Harrisburg High School and Claire Travis, wrestling for Tillamook High School.

This annual December tournament was named in honor of SCPO US Navy SEAL Tyrone Snowden Woods who was a 1989 OCHS graduate, OSAA 1989 wrestling champion, 2022 Congressional Gold Medal awardee, 2013 OWHF Medal of Courage recipient, 2006 Bronze Star w/V recipient, and Hero of Benghazi. Over 20 high schools compete in this tournament where hard-working wrestlers show the skills, discipline, and perseverance needed to participate in this great sport.

Support the OCHS wrestling program and also learn about TSWWF and how we support these dedicated athletes as they pursue their dreams just like Tyrone did.

Join us and the many youth wrestling supporters in cheering on your team and these amazing young athletes!

September 11, 2025 - Spreading the word in Tennessee about TSWWF, Tyrone, and honoring our Benghazi Heroes, especially my three Special Angels, as a guest of the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project Patriotic Dinner, https://thejourneyhomeproject.org/, in Nashville, TN. Over 10 years ago, Charlie Daniels, together with his long-time manager, David Corlew, and his wife Carolyn, created the nonprofit to support military and first-responders and their families. Honored guests were Greg Doherty, brother of US Navy SEAL and Tyrone's good friend, Glen, who perished with him at Benghazi; Mark "Oz" Geist, Kristian "Tanto" Paronto, and John "Tig" Tiegen. I have loved these guys for 13 years and was over the moon to have the opportunity to be reunited with them at this outstanding fundraising event for our military and first-responders and their families. I am posting this on our TSWWF page so that any of you who are supporters of youth wrestling and TSWWF will learn of them and know that they, unlike so many, have not forgotten Benghazi and the sacrifices made there. It is real, is dedicated to a great cause, and is another worthy nonprofit for your donation dollars. Thank you for your support of TSWWF, our military and our youth wrestlers!

As a postscript, Tyrone often said that the years he spent in the wrestling room where he learned the skills, discipline, and perseverance to put him on the championship podium, as well as being part of a team, were integral in his success in making it through BUD/s on his way to becoming a SEAL. He never quit, even when he had to go through Hell Week a second time (another story for another day).
