This October, we honor everyone touched by breast cancer: patients, survivors, caregivers, families, and the medical teams who care for them. 💗

Support shows up in many forms: routine check-ups and early detection, practical help, a listening ear, or simply being present.

In a medical setting, a therapy dog can offer a soft, unhurried moment of calm and companionship during a hard day. No pressure. No expectations. Just a gentle connection and a comforting presence.

To everyone walking this journey: you are seen, supported, and not alone. 🐾

We offer Therapy Dog visits to First Responders, Medical, Educational, and Senior facilities.

A calm plan helps everyone, including your dog. 🐾

For Fire Prevention Week, take a few minutes to review this simple home safety checklist:

✅ Test your smoke alarms regularly.
✅ Practice your escape plan, including how you will safely get your dog out.
✅ Place a pet alert sticker near your entrance.
✅ Make sure your dog’s ID tags and microchip information are current.
✅ Help your dog feel comfortable around alarm sounds by starting with a quiet recording, pairing it with treats, and gradually increasing the volume. Stop if your dog shows stress.

Preparing, practicing, and building confidence are all part of helping dogs navigate real-world situations. Share this checklist with someone who has a dog at home. ❤️

To every physician assistant serving on the front lines of care: thank you. ❤️

During National Physician Assistant Week, October 6–12, we’re shining a light on the steady presence, compassion, and strength you bring to emergency rooms, clinics, surgical teams, and community health settings.

You are often one of the first familiar faces a patient meets. Through long hours and demanding moments, you continue showing up with skill, empathy, and care. To us, that makes you first responders in every sense of the word.

We are grateful for the difference you make in the lives of patients, families, and communities, and for the comfort that therapy dogs can bring to the healthcare environments where you serve. 🐾

We offer Therapy Dog visits to First Responders, Medical, Educational, and Senior facilities.

Some of the people around us may be carrying more than we can see. ❤️

Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 4–10, is a reminder to lead with compassion. Mental illness is common, and it is often invisible. A simple check-in, patient listening, steady routine, or a little extra kindness can matter.

Support looks different for everyone. It may include professional care, trusted community, time outdoors, daily structure, or, for some, a trained psychiatric service dog.

These dogs do not cure mental illness. They can offer comfort, grounding, connection, and dependable daily support. At Althea Canines, we are honored to help veterans and first responders build meaningful partnerships with dogs trained for their individual needs.

If someone comes to mind, check in. And if you are the one carrying a little more than others can see, please be kind to yourself. You do not have to navigate every day alone.

We offer Therapy Dog visits to First Responders, Medical, Educational, and Senior facilities.

National Service Dog Month is a beautiful reminder that healing can begin with a calm presence and a gentle paw. 🐾

Therapy dogs are increasingly welcomed into fire departments and EMS stations, offering comfort to first responders after high-stress calls and to community members after difficult moments.

Their journey often starts young: learning calm manners, steady engagement, and how to respond when someone needs comfort. Behind every dependable therapy dog is patient training, thoughtful guidance, and a dedicated handler.

At Althea Canines, we train therapy and facility dogs while supporting the first responders who serve our communities. We’re honored to help strengthen the human-canine partnerships that bring stability, connection, and hope when they’re needed most.

Animal welfare is built into the everyday moments. 🐾

It means nutritious food, thoughtful veterinary care, enough rest, enrichment, humane training, and taking the time to understand each dog as an individual.

At Althea Canines, a dog’s wellbeing comes first. We build confidence gradually, not through pressure, and create training plans that support physical health, emotional stability, and long-term success. We also plan for the rest and eventual retirement every working dog deserves.

During Animal Welfare Week, October 3–9, we invite you to pause and consider the animals in your life. What helps them feel safe, healthy, engaged, and understood?

Small acts of care make a lasting difference. ❤️

Pizza night at Althea Canines looks a little different for our working dogs. 🐾🍕

Our trainers and volunteers enjoy the pizza, while our canine teammates practice the hardest task of all: keeping their noses pointed at a box that never opens!

Our dogs stay on a professional diet because pizza is a human reward, not dog food. Cheese, garlic, onions, and greasy crusts are best left on our plates. Their reward? Healthy treats, praise, and plenty of well-earned belly rubs. ❤️

Happy National Pizza Month from our team to yours!

Black dogs deserve to be seen for who they are, not the color of their coat. 🖤🐾

On National Black Dog Day, we’re celebrating the intelligence, loyalty, resilience, and love these dogs bring to our lives. Black dogs are sometimes overlooked in shelters and adoption settings, but coat color says nothing about character or potential.

At Althea Canines, we know that every working partnership begins with the right temperament, training, engagement, and heart. Our service dog teams come in many coat colors, and black Labradors are part of our own training lineup.

Today, help us change the perception: look past the color and see the whole dog. If a black dog has made a difference in your life, share this post and celebrate them with us! ❤️
