SCWT Health & Pedigree Database We're here to help with questions!

The SCWT Health and Pedigree Database is an easy to use resource with data about Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers throughout the world and reporting tools useful to all owners, breeders and health researchers.

10/02/2026

Soft coated wheaten terriers are known to be predisposed to chronic gastrointestinal disease. We have determined that the dogs develop changes in their guts before clinical signs develop. We want to see whether these changes are preventable with early diet intervention.

Enrolled dogs will visit the NC State Veterinary Hospital monthly for a total of four visits, will receive an Alicam® video capsule endoscope twice and then will be transitioned to a kibble diet, which they will eat exclusively for 90 days

The Texas A & M University College of Veterinary Medicine is looking for dogs to participate in a study into pancreatitis, a disease that can affect all breeds of dogs:

THE SHIP PROJECT
We are currently recruiting EDTA blood samples from dogs with elevated pancreatic lipase concentrations (>400 μg/L) for a genetic study exploring
heritable risk factors for pancreatitis. If you have a dog that qualifies, we’d be grateful for your help in discussing the study with the owner and
assisting with sample collection. All shipping costs are covered — we will provide a prepaid shipping label and instructions to make submission
easy. Your participation may help identify genetic markers associated with pancreatitis and improve outcomes for future patients. To request
materials or learn more, please contact us at [email protected]. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on canine health.
