Wow, only 8 days in and StreamSweepers Adopt a Pile has already raised about half (5k) of it's needed funds (10k). Dollars raised go to pay Central Virginia small business contractors to remove this remaining trash from river banks. Please consider going to the website and making a tax deductible donation today!

Ahyayha's Sister Program, StreamSweepers, has completed cleaning (first time and follow-up) of 120 miles of rivers in Central Virginia this year. Here’s the problem – there are 28 piles of junk in the beds and banks left to be removed. They are either too large or too awkward to be floated out in our boats. The only way to get them out is with the help of local heavy equipment contractors – and we did not budget that for our 2016 season.

These junk piles contain oil tanks, tires, appliances, all sorts of stuff that isn’t smart to have in the water we eventually consume for drinking and bathing. Soon working through our online merchant Partner, Flipcause, we will attempt to raise the funds to pay for removal of each of these piles through a 30 day quasi-crowdfunding effort.

We hope ahyayha and StreamSweeper Supporters will consider Adopting a Pile! If you like, we’ll name it for you or a loved one…or how about a pet? Stay tuned we hope to launch this project sometime next week.

Hello ahyayha Supporters! We have been dormant for a while waiting to find just the right environmental project for crowdfunding. We think we may have one! StreamSweepers 2016 crews have discovered a dumping problem in the upper portion of the Rappahannock watershed. Facebook friends have suggested we use wildlife cameras to try to curb this kind of behavior. We are also hoping to work with Southwest Virginia anti-litter activist Frank Kilgore to bring civil penalties for this kind of behavior. What do you think?http://ahyayha.com/new-2016-project-eyes-on-the-river/

This coming Tuesday, May 3, is Give Local Piedmont — a day to support the local non-profit organizations that strengthen and enrich our communities.

Give Local Piedmont empowers every person to give back to their local community by supporting the organizations they care about with donations of $10 or more. Last year, nearly 3/4 of a million dollars was raised through Give Local Piedmont for the 135 participating groups, in just one day!

Donations will be amplified with ongoing awards (power hours 6-7 am, 12-1 pm, 7-8pm) and bonus prizes . Again this year, the PATH Foundation (formerly the Fauquier Health Foundation) has agreed to match funds up to $100,000, so make sure you donate early in the day (starts at 12:01 am) to guarantee your contribution will be included in this match.

Please share this link and support StreamSweepers to train and employ our local youth to do the hard and important work of cleaning our rivers. Many thanks to so many that keep caring about our

The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation’s Give Local Piedmont is a 24-hour online giving event. The goal is simple – to inspire us to come together, show our pride in our community, and make a contribution to support the life-changing work of local nonprofits.

We have been brainstorming ways to link crowdfunding to quail habitat, since good folks in government can't the job done on their own - we think we have a system we're going to pilot in 2015. This in a crosscutting opportunity that ties into our energy use and river valley health as well.
