Nearly 400 Acres of Wildlife Habitat Will Be Destroyed … Unless We Stop It
The Irvine Company wants to build 1058 residential lots that would destroy 396 acres of open space — while providing virtually no fiscal benefits to the City of Orange or to the Co

We can’t get over the hop!!!! 🦌

One of our volunteers Eloisa () spotted some Mule deer on a biosurvey with on Wednesday, May 13th! They were located north of Santiago Canyon Rd.

Footage like this is so important because it shows how close wildlife is at all times to our homes and alongside traffic everyday to survive.

With the Orange Heights project, The Irvine Company wants to expand Santiago Canyon Rd near the development, making a busy and dangerous road (rated one of the deadliest in Orange County, earning it the nickname “Road of Death) even harder for wildlife to cross for species like Mule deer, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, etc. Almost HALF of our mountain lion population in the Santa Ana Mountains is due to vehicle strikes. We can’t keep letting this happen.

We need more open space to provide safety for wildlife. While there is nothing we can do about the existing road and noise pollution, the least we can do is ensure they have a safe haven to eat, rest, and raise their young.

Please support wildlife by opposing The Irvine Company’s Orange Heights project. Click our bio to learn more and find out how you can support the cause! 💚

Take some time to enjoy the peace that this video brings.
Let it regulate your nervous system.

Allow yourself a mere 45 seconds to be calm in a chaotic world.

If need be...play it again.
Close your eyes.
Breathe.

This is what nature provides if we become one with it again.
This is what nature gives to us when we need it most.
This is why we need to protect these spaces...for all of the flora and fauna within it, but also for ourselves.
We cannot continue to become distant from what makes us human and a part of this Earth - not apart from it.

Save Orange Hills.

Join flautist/flute maker Bryan Baker () and meditation teacher Miguel Pulido () for an evening of guided rest, breath awareness, and bamboo flute music outdoors.

We’ll begin with gentle guided grounding and invitations to rest and tune in, allowing the body and attention to settle into a slower rhythm. Once comfortable, live bamboo flute will open space for rest, listening, and quiet reflection in relationship with the surrounding landscape.

This offering is open to all backgrounds; no meditation experience is required, just an appreciation for the outdoors and relaxing flute music.

DEADLINE EXTENDED DUE TO HOLIDAY!
Written comments are now due by Tuesday, May 26 at 5 PM!!!

🚨📢 Loud and clear, Orange County: this is our chance to speak up for the future of Orange Hills!!!

The Irvine Company is moving forward with revised plans for the Orange Heights development, and a new environmental review process is now underway. That means the public has an opportunity — RIGHT NOW — to demand accountability and push for stronger protections for wildlife, open space, cultural resources, and community safety.

This project threatens:
• Wildlife habitat & connectivity
• Rare and protected species
• Prehistoric Indigenous cultural sites
• Increased wildfire danger
• Major traffic impacts
• One of Orange County’s remaining natural landscapes

This is your first chance to help shape the Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) and ensure these impacts are fully addressed.

The fight to keep Orange Hills wild is far from over — in many ways, it’s just beginning.

Happy International Day for Biological Diversity! 💚

Today we want to celebrate the incredible biodiversity of not only California, but of Orange County! 🍊

Orange County is GLOBALLY recognized as a biodiversity hotspot. The region contains an incredible variety of rare and endemic species due to its complex mix of coastal wetlands, scrub, and chaparral landscapes.

Many threatened and endangered species call the Orange Hills home!

This is why saving any and ALL wild spaces that we have left in Orange County is SO crucial.

We need the support of the community to fight the Orange Heights development and permanently protect the irreplaceable flora and fauna that inhabit this land.

Let’s Save Orange Hills 👏🏼 Click the link in our bio to find out how you can help and make public comments to the City of Orange.

Hooray! A 2-for-1 ticket deal! 🥳 BOGO BABY!

We’re back for our last nature journaling course of this series with 🫶🏼

Interested in learning about and connecting with our local wildlands? Join us for an Introduction to Nature Journaling!

Let’s take a walk through the beautiful local wilderness and enjoy the spring season, making thoughtful observations through a creative lens. Nature journaling is a wonderful tool to connect with yourself and the world around you while practicing creativity and creating a memento of your time outdoors. 🌼

Professional instructor Dori Dewberry will lead this series of art lessons in nature! We will be settling into a spot where the Orange Hills can be seen, and learn techniques for capturing their wild beauty with pencil, paint and paper. All supplies have been generously donated by Blick Art Materials, you need only bring something to sit on.

Materials provided include the following:
🔸Watercolor Paper
🔸Watercolor Pans / Pencils
🔸Clipboard
🔸Brushes
🔸Water Jar

Please wear comfortable closed toed shoes, layers for changing temperatures, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses). Each person should bring 1 liter (½ gallon) of water, personal medications (epipen, inhaler, etc.) and snacks.
This activity is an easy walk of up to 1 mile. This is a dog friendly trail: dogs must be on leash, and you are responsible for your own safety and anyone you bring. Please don’t attend if you are feeling unwell; masks are always welcome. Photos and videos will be taken during the activity (let us know if you’d prefer not to be photographed).

For this last session, the instruction focus will be on watercolor, but all materials will be available. For more information, contact [email protected].

Parking is $5. Gather at LOT N of Irvine Regional Park.
