Our lives were changed for ever that day. Showing a few signs of weird behavior since he was a child I never thought this would be the final outcome. My son lives a life of delusions and mind altering reoccurrences that would take your breath away. I could go on and on about his life for the past 9 years, psychotic episodes, numerous mental hospitolizations, in and out of guarded care and housing
etc. But, this is to serve as a positive impact in our lives and the communities around us. Trevor is now 23 and a loving, funny, caring human being that knows he has a "chemical imbalance" (as he refers to it). Even though he has stayed mentally at 14. He is aware of what is going on in his life and his surroundings. Can tell you the stats of every team in the NFL and the NBA. Forever live the BEARS he says! And always tells his momma she "looks good today" and "I love you Momma". When Trevor turned 18 he became a ward of the state. This means he is an adult and I have no say so in his life. Who cares what the state says, Momma Bear takes care of her cubs! I have insisted to make decisions on his behalf and make sure he receives the care he needs on a daily basis. Which brings us to today. Most Board and care facilities that take care of the mentally ill are horrible, disgusting places to live in, in my many experiences. They only need to follow a few guidelines. I wont go into detail with what Trevor, Jordan and I have been through. But trust me....
After many searches, reaching out to organizations, and anything or anyone I could find I have found NOTHING. After a psychotic episode and a hospital stay, one social worker helped me! She found one place suitable for my son. Trevor lives in a wonderful Board and Care in Riverside. It is some what of a farm atmosphere with pigs, chickens and goats. He lives there with other mentally handicap adults. Most of them over 35. God sent us this place when I was at the end of my rope. However, the residents there are very nonfunctional and there are no activities, and no one his age. His care takers are going into their 70's and the man is bed ridden. Only a short time is left for Trevor at this home. A few years back before we found this place, I made a promise to Trevor that I would open a home for him and young male adults that suffer from the same condition. I told him that I would make it a safe place where no one had to be scared anymore. I am starting to fulfill that promise to Trevor today! My Mission: Create a Non-profit Organization Called Trevor's House. One T-shirt at a time! Once you are a non-profit you can receive special grants and money from the state to fund a board and care facility. A Board and Care facility that I see as a home for young male adults 18-25, with a basketball court, music to listen to, their own room, their own TV. A place they can call home. Or going to "Trevor's House" to hang out! The first step is creating the non-profit organization. I have found that this cost $1,000. To help generate that first $1,000. I am relaunching my t-shirt line. "Love to Quote you". All profit will go towards building my dream!
