Orange North Rotary Club – Celebrating the Next Generation of Leaders

Yesterday morning, our Orange North Rotary Club had the privilege of hosting three outstanding students from Orange High School: Arianna Granada, Allisson Villalon, and Angela Rodriguez. They were accompanied by the dedicated and highly respected Colonel Mark Tull, whose guidance and support played a major role in bringing these students to our club and helping them participate in this year’s RYLA program.

A fourth selected student was unable to attend, but was very much part of the experience we recognized and celebrated.

At 7:00 AM, the students joined us for a warm breakfast at the Original Pancake House, where they shared their reflections after returning from RYLA Camp — the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards weekend, funded entirely by Rotary to empower young leaders from our community.

What RYLA Represents

RYLA — Rotary Youth Leadership Awards — is one of Rotary’s most impactful youth initiatives. It brings together students from across the region for a weekend focused on leadership development, communication skills, team‑building challenges, and personal growth. Participants step away from their daily routines and fully immerse themselves in an environment designed to strengthen character, confidence, and collaboration.

What These Students Shared With Us

Each of the three students described RYLA as a life‑changing experience.

They spoke about:

• Disconnecting from the outside world and focusing on meaningful interactions
• Building new friendships with students from many different schools
• Taking on challenges that pushed them far beyond their comfort zones
• Discovering strengths they didn’t realize they had
• Returning to school with a renewed sense of direction and purpose

Their stories were sincere, thoughtful, and filled with the kind of insight that reminds us why Rotary invests in programs that uplift young adults.

A Message of Gratitude

Colonel Mark Tull expressed deep appreciation to Rotary for our involvement with Orange High School and for making opportunities like RYLA possible. His commitment to these students — and to helping them grow into confident, capable leaders — was evident in every word he shared.

A Moment Worth Sharing

Below, you’ll see a photo of the three students who joined us yesterday morning. Their presence brought energy, optimism, and a powerful reminder of the impact Rotary can have on the future of our community.

A Call to the Community

We are proud to share that Donna Cavanagh is on her way to represent Orange North Rotary as a dedicated adult participant and mentor at RYLA—Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. The photo below, taken with our current District Governor Craig Livingston, captures the spirit of Rotary leadership and service that Donna embodies so well. Her long-standing connection to Orange High, her support of her granddaughter on the softball team, and her deep commitment to youth development make her an extraordinary ambassador for our club. Donna’s willingness to step forward, give her time, and help guide young leaders reflects the very heart of Rotary’s mission.

RYLA, one of Rotary’s most transformative youth programs, has a rich history dating back to the 1950s. Within District 5320—and in collaboration with neighboring districts—RYLA brings together high‑potential high school students for an immersive leadership experience that challenges them to grow in ways they never imagined. Over several days, participants build confidence, develop communication and teamwork skills, learn to lead with integrity, and discover strengths they didn’t know they had. It is a program that changes lives, inspires service, and helps shape the next generation of community leaders.

Our club has proudly supported RYLA for many years, but this year Donna is taking our involvement to an entirely new level. Her enthusiasm, energy, and genuine care for young people will leave a lasting impact on every student she encounters. We are deeply grateful for her commitment and cannot wait to welcome her home with stories, insights, and inspiration from this year’s RYLA experience.

When she returns, we look forward to scheduling a special program featuring Donna and the remarkable students we sponsored. Please join us in congratulating and thanking Donna for representing Orange North Rotary with such heart and dedication. Her service truly embodies Rotary’s purpose: creating hope, opportunity, and leadership in the youth who will shape our future. Are you considering to join a local service club? A Day of Honor in the City of Orange — March 12, 2026

On a warm Thursday afternoon in March, the three Rotary clubs of the City of Orange — Orange Rotary, Orange North Rotary, and Orange Plaza Rotary — united in service and celebration at the 52nd Annual William G. Steiner Memorial Police & Fire Awards Luncheon. This cherished annual tradition honors the dedication, bravery, and professionalism of the men and women of the Orange Police Department and the Orange Fire Department.

Honoring the Orange Fire Department

The Rotary clubs proudly recognized the 2025 Fire Department award recipients:

• Manager of the Year: Battalion Chief Casey Fieldhouse
• Firefighter of the Year: Fire Captain Stephen Fan
• Non‑Sworn Professional Staff Member of the Year: Plan Examiner & Public Educator Lucy Echevarria
• Fire Reserve of the Year: Alik Amoranto
• Fire Cadet of the Year: Cooper Adams

Honoring the Orange Police Department

The celebration continued with recognition of the Orange Police Department’s outstanding honorees:

• Supervisor of the Year: Sergeant Kirk Salmon
• Officer of the Year: Detective David Hernandez
• Non‑Sworn Professional Staff Member of the Year: Richard Martinez
• Explorer of the Year: Yanexy Franco

A Program Filled With Leadership and Community Spirit

The event opened with warm introductions by Pat Buttress, followed by our Master of Ceremonies and newest Duke of Orange, Cam Geringer‑Pate.

The Invocation was delivered by Sean Chavarria, Chaplain of the Orange Elks Lodge, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Dan Slater. A beautifully performed National Anthem by Alexandra Geringer‑Pate set a tone of pride and unity.

Recognition of the Police Department honorees was presented by Chief Adam Jevec, while Chief Alan Velasco honored the Fire Department award recipients.

A highlight of the luncheon was the keynote address by the Honorable Gene Hernandez, head of the Yorba Linda Water District, former mayor of Yorba Linda, and a former Orange police officer. His words reflected a lifetime of service and deep ties to the community. A special moment of appreciation was also given to retired Orange Fire Chief Sean deMetropolis, who shared heartfelt remarks.

To close the ceremony, Cam Geringer‑Pate returned to the podium to thank the mayor, dignitaries, first responders, and all three Rotary clubs for their commitment to honoring public safety. Among those present were the three Rotary presidents, including Katherine Connaghan of the Orange North Rotary Club.

A Call to Serve

As photos from today’s celebration are shared, we hope they inspire others to step forward. Service clubs like Rotary are where friendships grow, leaders develop, and communities thrive. If you’ve ever considered joining a service organization, getting to know your community more deeply, or making a meaningful impact, the Orange North Rotary Club welcomes you with open arms.

We are proud to announce that Teri Harman is the Incoming President of the Orange North Rotary Club for the 2026–2027 Rotary year. Teri has just completed the Southwest PELS training, an important milestone as she prepares to lead our club into a strong and inspiring future.

Last weekend, Teri attended the Southwest PELS — President‑Elect Learning Seminar, a premier Rotary leadership conference designed to equip incoming presidents with the tools, knowledge, and connections needed for a successful year of service. Nearly 800 Presidents‑elect from California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Montana participated in this year’s event.

The conference featured a full schedule of high‑impact training sessions, dynamic speakers, and evening hospitality events that fostered fellowship and collaboration. Teri returned with valuable insights, renewed enthusiasm, and a network of service‑minded leaders from across the region.

We look forward to Teri’s leadership as she guides the Orange North Rotary Club through the 2026/27 year and helps shape the future of our service to the community.

The Orange North Rotary Club is truly something special in the City of Orange — a place where good people come together to do great things. This past Tuesday, after our morning meeting, several of our members drove to Irvine to volunteer at the Jessie Rees Foundation, the incredible nonprofit created in honor of Jessie Rees, a courageous young girl who, during her own battle with cancer, chose to spread joy to other children fighting the same fight. Her message, NEGU — Never Ever Give Up, continues to inspire thousands around the world.

At the foundation’s headquarters, we toured their impressive facility, learned about Jessie’s mission, and then rolled up our sleeves to help pack JoyJars — bright, hope-filled jars created to bring smiles and encouragement to kids battling cancer. Knowing that each JoyJar we packed will soon reach a child who needs strength, love, and a reason to smile made the experience deeply meaningful for all of us. See photos included here.

If you’ve ever thought about joining a Rotary Club or a service club in the City of Orange — a place where business connections, personal friendships, and lifelong impact come together — there’s no better choice than the Orange North Rotary Club. Your first two visits are free, breakfast included, so come check us out and see what we’re all about.

We meet every Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM at the Original Pancake House in Orange off Chapman, where we enjoy an amazing breakfast and even better company. If you’re interested in joining, learning more, or getting involved in projects like this — from helping children to supporting seniors, families, and everyone in between — give me a ring at 714‑227‑3822.

🌟 ONRC Morning Meeting Highlights 🌟
The Orange North Rotary Club (ONRC) had a packed room this morning at our 7 AM meeting at the Original Pancake House in Orange. We were honored to welcome Honorable Judge Scott Steiner as our guest speaker.

Judge Steiner shared compelling insights on what to expect with the rapid evolution of AI, along with important updates on upcoming real estate laws and educational legislation for 2026. With approximately 600 new laws taking effect this year alone, his presentation was both eye‑opening and incredibly informative. He represented the Superior Court system with professionalism, clarity, and genuine dedication.

We also want to acknowledge that Judge Steiner is the son of the late Bill Steiner, a well‑respected and truly remarkable man whose legacy continues to have a meaningful impact on our community. It was an honor to have his son with us today.

Our members asked thoughtful questions, and the engagement in the room made for a fantastic morning. This wasn’t Judge Steiner’s first time speaking at ONRC, and we sincerely hope it won’t be his last. We deeply appreciate the time he took to join us.

If you’re seeing this post and would like to learn more about joining a service‑driven, community‑focused club in the City of Orange, feel free to give me a call at 714‑227‑3822.
We’re always excited to welcome new members who want to make a positive impact.

Thank you!

🌍 A Mighty Morning With David Lott at ONRC

What an inspiring start to the week at the Orange North Rotary Club (ONRC). We had the privilege of hosting David Lott from the Long Beach Rotary, who shared a powerful presentation about the international water project our club helped support in Mozambique.

This initiative — a new water well and sanitation facility — is now providing clean, life‑changing water access to thousands of people. It’s a shining example of what Rotary can achieve when passion, service, and collaboration come together. A special acknowledgment goes to Capt. Al (Allan) Sheridan, whose leadership was instrumental in bringing this project to life.

Despite being a small club, ONRC partnered with fellow Rotary clubs to raise nearly $125,000 for this effort. The impact is real, and the gratitude shared by those who visited Mozambique was deeply moving.

And there’s more ahead. Superior Court Judge Scott Steiner will be joining ONRC as a guest speaker on January 27th at 7 AM — a morning you won’t want to miss.

We’re also gearing up for our Membership Mixer on February 3 at the OC Wine Mart. If you’ve ever been curious about Rotary, community service, or connecting with local leaders, this is the perfect opportunity to meet us, learn more, and see what makes ONRC such a dynamic and welcoming club.

ONRC is growing, and we’re excited to welcome new faces who want to make a difference locally and globally. If you’re looking for a place to serve, lead, and build meaningful connections, we’d love to meet you.
Morning meetings are Tuesdays 7 AM at the Original Pancake House In Orange.
