Manara West

Manara West Formerly MSA West. A grassroots nonprofit led by and devoted to empowering Muslim college students across the West Coast.

MSA West is an umbrella organization comprised of Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), representing Muslim students and their organizations from campuses across the West Coast. MSA West has 3 simple but important goals:

1) Provide resources to MSA’s in order to foster their growth and development. Resources such as speaker contacts, financial assistance, mentoring, advising, etc

2) Facilitate col

laboration between MSA’s. MSA West accomplishes this through establishing communication lines and networks between MSAs on the West Coast, as well as by coordinating collective events and activities. Through collaboration between different MSA's, all MSA's can develop at a faster rate and grow in new ways.

3) Create a powerful, effective, and united voice and MSA community on important issues.Coordination between MSA's will allow all MSA’s to act and respond in a unified way on important issues that affect the Muslim community.

Our halaqa with Shaykh Yaser Birjas brought students together for an opportunity to learn, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.

At Manara West, our goal is to make Islamic learning accessible and relevant to students while creating a community rooted in faith, sincerity, and meaningful relationships.

We want our halaqas to be spaces where you can ask questions, gain practical guidance, meet other students, and leave feeling closer to Allah and your community.

Join us for an intimate evening of mentorship with Dr. Deana Helmy, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Director of Counseling Services at ICNA Relief’s Crescent Counseling Center, and the first female Chair of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California.

This month’s discussion, “Navigating the Challenges of Female Leadership,” will explore the unique opportunities and challenges Muslim women encounter while leading in their communities, balancing service with personal well-being, and staying grounded in their values. Come prepared for an engaging conversation, practical advice, and the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive and welcoming space.

Servant Leadership Summit (SLS) is a weekend designed to equip Muslim student leaders with the skills, mindset, and community needed to make a lasting impact on their campuses and beyond.

Since 1998, Manara West (formerly MSA West) has been bringing together student leaders from across the West Coast to learn from experienced mentors, exchange ideas, and grow alongside one another in service to the Muslim community.
Throughout the weekend, participants will take part in interactive workshops, engaging discussions, inspiring lectures, networking opportunities, and collaborative problem-solving; all centered on becoming stronger, more effective leaders.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your leadership, connect with fellow changemakers, or bring new ideas back to your campus, SLS is the place to be.
