Thanks to Mark Ginsburg and Maleah Grover from California for delivering medical supplies to Cuba. According to Maleah, "The woman at the oncology clinic was in tears the donations meant so much to her."
Mark added,, "the shorter woman in the center of the photo is Juanita Ortiz, former Head of International Relations for the Province of Matanzas and long-time leader of the Matanzas organization that served as the counterpart of Pittsburgh in its sister city relations. She is also an out-patient at this hospital and, unfortunately, may not live too much longer. Given our trip was organized through the Pittsburgh-Matanzas Partnership (as well as the National Single Payer organization, it was a special moment to spend time with Juanita. Thank you again for organizing the suitcase for me to deliver, Mark"

OC Not Just Tourists is honored to be working with Bob Brauchler and Hugh Margesson of Hope Beyond Borders (HBB). HBB, an arm of , is focused on sending surplus medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and facilities in poor communities around the globe.

They ship to Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, and support projects in Vietnam, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Because we have slightly different methods we have found that we can work together, exchanging supplies between the two groups to better help the communities we serve.

Here’s a copy of the article that has suddenly put us on the map! In the 4 weeks since it began arriving in mailboxes, we’ve been contacted by over 150 people asking to donate, volunteer, or take supplies.

A huge thank you to Brad Wright who wrote the article and Robert Rose who documented his suitcase delivery on , which is how Brad found us.

Now that we have volunteers and travelers from all over Southern California, we’re hoping to set up more Satellite locations in the surrounding counties so travelers can pick up a suitcase without having to drive to Orange. Oneva Turner was able to take supplies to a small dental clinic in Cabo San Lucas recently! She says, "I saw the article in Westways magazine and thought it such a wonderful humanitarian cause. So many things are discarded that can and should be used where needed.”

We have been proud to partner with Eastside Christian Church for the past 4 years. In addition to their local community work, they have a robust international program.This year they provided medical assistance to several areas of Kenya and we were glad to provide them with medical supplies. Special thanks to Artie Vangeloof, Dr. Anne Ford, Naomi Morales, and Katy Carey for making this happen.

We are so happy to have worked with to get more than 100 kgs of supplies to communities in need! They are an amazing organization doing tremendous work, and we are grateful to have helped get them all sorts of things, including wound care supplies, vital monitoring equipment including stethoscopes and thermometers, and more!
