Teamsters Local 952 Announces Pause in Strike Following Progress in Negotiations with the County of Orange

The following statement is from Teamsters Local 952 regarding progress in negotiations with the County of Orange and the decision to pause the unfair labor practice strike:

“Following discussions with the County during mediation, we believe we are moving in the right direction toward reaching an agreement.
“The Orange County Board of Supervisors has agreed to hold a special session this Friday to consider what we hope will be an improved contract proposal that recognizes the critical work our members perform every day.

“With these assurances, and as a show of good faith, Teamsters Local 952 has agreed to pause our unfair labor practice strike beginning tomorrow, with our members returning to work as negotiations continue. We are committed to prioritizing the residents of Orange County and the workers who keep the county running. We expect the County to demonstrate that same commitment by working towards a fair agreement as soon as possible.

“While we have made progress, no agreement has been reached, and our members will have the final say on any proposed contract. We hope Friday’s meeting produces an offer our members can be proud to vote on so we can put this strike behind us and continue doing what we do best, serving our communities.

“While we are encouraged by the progress made, we remain committed to securing a fair contract for our members. If the County does not return with a fair offer that recognizes the critical work our members perform, we are prepared to immediately resume our strike and return to the picket lines.”

Two weeks in and the Board of Supervisors is learning exactly what Teamster unity looks like.

Our members are standing stronger every day, media coverage is growing, and more elected officials are speaking out against the County’s treatment of its workers.

The pressure is building, and we’re not backing down! The Board of Supervisors can end this strike today. Respect your workers, negotiate a fair contract, and get Orange County back to work!

Teamsters Local 952 thanks Congressman Lou Correa for standing with our members in their fight for a fair contract.

As our brothers and sisters continue to hold the line against Orange County, support from those willing to stand alongside working families does not go unnoticed.

Our members remain united and determined to get the contract they deserve.

United we bargain. Divided we beg.

DAY 2 UNITED AND STANDING STRONG.

As we wrap up day 2 of our strike. Secretary-Treasurer Eric Jimenez has a message for every Orange County Teamster “Stay strong, stay focused and most importantly, stay united.”

The Orange County Board of Supervisors IS feeling the pressure, and our members are showing our unity.

Keep showing up. Keep standing together. When we stand united, we cannot be ignored.

Orange County officials have turned their backs on the very workers who keep our communities running. The Board of Supervisors had every opportunity to do the right thing, and instead chose to wage war against their own employees. Our members deserve better from the officials they once considered friends and allies. One thing is certain, Teamsters Local 952 and its members will remember who stood with working families and who turned their backs on them.

We are ready to strike as long as we need until the board of supervisors recognize the importance of what our members do every day.

ORANGE COUNTY TEAMSTERS ARE OFFICIALLY ON STRIKE!

At 4 AM this morning, Teamsters Local 952 members established picket lines at major Orange County landfills and County headquarters.

The workers who maintain our parks, animal shelters, roads, waterways and first responder vehicles are now withholding their labor in the fight for a fair contract.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors has left these workers with no other choice.

With El Niño potentially approaching, beach cities depending on County services and the cost of providing for a family higher than ever, what did Orange County officials decide to do?

They decided to wage war on the very workers who keep Orange County running and our communities safe.

After months of negotiations, the Board of Supervisors has failed to deliver a fair contract.

The Board meets this morning and has the opportunity to end this strike immediately by offering a contract that allows these workers to provide for themselves and their families.

The responsibility to end this strike rests squarely on the shoulders of the Board of Supervisors.

We’re calling on Orange County residents and city officials to contact the County and demand they settle this strike.
