Waste Not Florida

Waste Not Florida Connecting the dots between surplus food and hungry people in North Florida since 1990 All these are wasted; thrown away.

Food belongs in bellies - not landfills: Waste Not Want Not exists to prevent the discarding of items that can be used to fight hunger and poverty in our community. Our volunteers rescue food daily from stores, restaurants, vendors, farmers’ fields and neighbors’ gardens. We distribute this perishable food promptly to people fighting hunger in Clay and surrounding counties. These men, women, and c

hildren, our neighbors, enjoyed two million pounds of wholesome food last year - food that, but for our volunteers’ efforts would have gone to waste. What happens to the heart-shaped cakes on February 15, the unbroken eggs in a carton with two that are cracked, the unsold food at your favorite restaurant at closing time, or the unpicked oranges on neighbor’s trees? In a country where one resident in six is food-insecure, one-quarter of all food produced is discarded before it reaches a consumer. But not here in North Florida where Waste Not intercepts food that may be unmarketable or "imperfect" but is perfectly wholesome and safe to consume. Not here in North Florida where Waste Not fights hunger by distributing that rescued food to 2,000 people struggling to put food on the table every day. Waste Not Want Not rescues food, helps people, and increases financial donors’ impact. Every dollar donated to Waste Not, magnified by the efforts of our volunteers, provides 15 pounds of food to people in 14 counties struggling to put food on the table. Receiving food from Waste Not for free allows our recipient groups to do more; to feed more people or to spend more of their limited funds on non-food services. Every financial gift to Waste Not results in benefits to our community that are much greater in value than the value of the donation. No one should go hungry while good food goes to waste: Learn more at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUMgyebt3H4

"Oops...we did it again!" We fought hunger again today. Our Friday team distributed over 6,000 pounds of food!!! We were able to share 3 pallets of peppers with our friends at The Children's Table along with dozens of towers of bread and some shelf stable. We also served Black Creek Methodist Church of Middleburg, Global Leadership, The Way Free Medical Clinic, Inc., Calvary Baptist Church, Church of the Good Samaritan Anglican, and Immanuel Anglican! Can you say "Peter Piper Picked a Pack of Pickled Pepper" 3,145 times fast? That's how many pounds of sweet peppers and jalapeños we rescued today from a new partner referred to us by Local Fare Jax (we 💚 LFJ for sooooo many reasons not the least of which is THEIR love and support of OUR mission). 🌟🌱👏💚🌶️

Special thank you to the volunteers who answered the call to collect these beautiful peppers!

Our Executive Director is in Charlotte North Carolina at the ReFED Food Waste Solutions Summit learning about innovations in food recovery as a method to reduce food waste. Lots of great ideas and concepts to help Waste Not Florida expand its rescue reach. While there, she ran into this guy who sends a special message of thanks and appreciation to our volunteers for all the work they do to prevent food waste!

Andrew Zimmern is more than a celebrity chef, he is a foremost food advocate committed to reducing food waste and hunger alleviation. Thank you for the opportunity to attend, network, learn, and ultimately do more!

So glad to see this program and so glad Waste Not Florida supports programs like it in our community!

We are so excited about partnering with the YMCA for tho program!
