After 24 years of dedicated service, we proudly recognize the retirement of Deputy Chief Mike Wallis.

Chief Wallis built his career the right way, earning every rank from firefighter to lieutenant, captain, and ultimately Deputy Chief. Along the way, he became more than a leader. He became a mentor, a teacher, and a standard for what this profession should be.

For years, he honed his craft and poured that knowledge into others. Countless firefighters under his leadership have gone on to do great things, carrying forward the lessons, discipline, and pride he instilled in them. His impact doesn’t stop at the firehouse doors. Chief Wallis also dedicated years to educating future paramedics, helping shape the next generation of providers in our field.

Beyond the badge, he stood up for his brothers and sisters as the longtime Local 2668 Union President, always fighting for what was right and ensuring the voices of the membership were heard.

A career like his leaves a mark that can’t be measured in years alone. It’s measured in people, in standards, and in the legacy left behind.

The firehouse will carry forward the values you instilled in all of us—your standard, your work ethic, and your commitment to doing the job the right way will continue to shape this department for years to come.

Now, it’s time for a well-earned next chapter. Chief Wallis plans to spend his retirement traveling and making memories with his wife—something he has more than earned after a lifetime of service.

These doors will always be open to you. Whether you’re looking for a little camaraderie, a place to sit down, or just a good cup of coffee, you’ll always have a seat at the table here.

Thank you, Chief Wallis, for your leadership, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to the fire service. Enjoy retirement, you’ve earned every second of it.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our brother in blue, Officer Troutt. His courageous battle with cancer was marked by the same strength, dignity, and commitment that defined his career in law enforcement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Orange Park Police Department and, most importantly, with Officer Troutt’s family during this incredibly difficult time. No words can ease the loss, but please know you are not alone. Your law enforcement and public safety family stands beside you in grief, remembrance, and unwavering support.

Officer Troutt’s service, sacrifice, and legacy will not be forgotten. Rest easy, brother. Your watch may have ended, but your impact will live on.

Saturday, December 27 at 08:00 marked the end of an extraordinary chapter in Orange Park Fire Department’s history. After 21 years of dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and exceptional leadership, Captain Jack Barrick completed his final tour of duty.

Captain Barrick has served this community with a level of knowledge, skill, and professionalism that has shaped the heart of our department. His calm presence on the fireground, steady leadership in our toughest moments, and consistent example of what true service looks like have earned him the respect of everyone beside him.

🚨 For 433 days, Orange Park firefighters have been without a contract.🚨

The Town issued a written communication stating that if the Union files an unfair labor practice charge, it will seek financial retaliation, including attorney’s fees and litigation costs.

That conduct is inconsistent with Florida Statute Chapter 447, which prohibits coercion, intimidation, and retaliation for engaging in protected activity.

Nearly one week after formally notifying the Town Council of these labor law violations, the Town has issued no official response and has not contacted the Union to resolve the violations or move negotiations forward.

The Union remains committed to working with the Town to negotiate a contract that respects the work performed by your Orange Park firefighters.
The Union will not back down, not delay, and not abandon protected activity in response to threats.

While this dispute continues, Orange Park firefighters will continue to protect lives, property, and public safety with the professionalism and dedication this community deserves.

🔥 403 Days. Still No Contract. 🔥
Still No End in Sight.

403 days of broken promises.
403 days of “we’re working on it.”
403 days of waiting while others move forward.

Firefighters have kept showing up — through sleepless nights, trauma, and sacrifice — all while being told to wait just a little longer.

Enough is enough.
It’s time for action.
It’s time for respect.
It’s time for a contract.
