After 24 years of dedicated service, we proudly recognize the retirement of Deputy Chief Mike Wallis.
Chief Wallis built his career the right way, earning every rank from firefighter to lieutenant, captain, and ultimately Deputy Chief. Along the way, he became more than a leader. He became a mentor, a teacher, and a standard for what this profession should be.
For years, he honed his craft and poured that knowledge into others. Countless firefighters under his leadership have gone on to do great things, carrying forward the lessons, discipline, and pride he instilled in them. His impact doesn’t stop at the firehouse doors. Chief Wallis also dedicated years to educating future paramedics, helping shape the next generation of providers in our field.
Beyond the badge, he stood up for his brothers and sisters as the longtime Local 2668 Union President, always fighting for what was right and ensuring the voices of the membership were heard.
A career like his leaves a mark that can’t be measured in years alone. It’s measured in people, in standards, and in the legacy left behind.
The firehouse will carry forward the values you instilled in all of us—your standard, your work ethic, and your commitment to doing the job the right way will continue to shape this department for years to come.
Now, it’s time for a well-earned next chapter. Chief Wallis plans to spend his retirement traveling and making memories with his wife—something he has more than earned after a lifetime of service.
These doors will always be open to you. Whether you’re looking for a little camaraderie, a place to sit down, or just a good cup of coffee, you’ll always have a seat at the table here.
Thank you, Chief Wallis, for your leadership, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to the fire service. Enjoy retirement, you’ve earned every second of it.
