🌟 **Board Spotlight: Mary Schmidt** 🌟

Siouxland Agriculture in the Classroom is proud to shine this week’s Board Spotlight on **Mary Schmidt of Hawarden, Iowa!**

Mary is self-employed on her family farm and holds a B.S. in Horticulture from SDSU. She brings a deep passion for agriculture, dairy goats, and community involvement to everything she does. 🌱

Since joining the SAITC Board in 2024, Mary has been a strong advocate for sharing agriculture’s story and helping others understand the vital role it plays in our daily lives. Her leadership experience includes serving on the Iowa Pork Foundation Board and as secretary for the Sioux County Farm Bureau.

When she’s not serving on the board, Mary enjoys gardening 🌸 and traveling across the country showing her registered herd of Toggenburg dairy goats 🐐. She and her husband, Tim, are also very involved in the pork industry, attending events like Iowa Pork Congress and National Pork Forum and supporting Sioux County Pork activities.

Mary’s commitment to her community is evident through her service as a deacon at Peace Lutheran Church and her monthly volunteering at the local food pantry. She also treasures time spent with her two granddaughters. ❤️

We're so excited for the next Northwest Iowa Local Loop event in Sioux County on Wednesday, June 10, starting at 9 a.m.! We'll start the day off by learning the art of soap-making with goat milk at the Big Red Barn. Then we'll head over to Holland Flower Farm and learn how they grow unique and uncommon varieties of flowers!
