Hewn from the Lord…

To be hewn means to be cut. That part right there will preach all by itself. Sometimes the shaping process feels like loss. It feels like pieces falling off. It feels like separation, pruning, breaking, or being stripped of what once felt familiar. But being cut by God is not the same as being abandoned by God. When the Lord hews a stone, He is preparing it for purpose. He is shaping what will stand. So if this season has felt like subtraction, do not mistake holy shaping for rejection. God is not wasting the cuts. He is forming strength into your frame. He is making you fit for what is next. And yes, it hurts—but pain is not always proof that something is wrong. Sometimes it is proof that something is being made ready.

Unshaken Faith in a Shaken World

The Psalm describes mountains falling into the sea and the earth giving way. These images remind us that life can feel unstable and unpredictable. Yet the writer boldly declares that even when everything around them collapses, they will not fear. Faith does not mean life never trembles. Faith means trusting the One who remains steady when everything else moves. In a world constantly shifting, God’s character remains firm. Let your soul anchor itself in that truth.

God Is Your Refuge

Life has a way of shaking the ground beneath your feet. Responsibilities pile up, emotions swell, and the noise of the world grows loud. Yet Psalm 46 opens with a powerful truth: God is your refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. This means you do not have to face the storm alone. Refuge is not simply a place you visit when things go wrong; it is a covering you live under. When the weight of life presses in, pause and remember that God’s presence surrounds you like a fortress. The storm may be real, but His protection is greater.

Coffee for Your Soul

There are moments when life feels loud.

Your thoughts are racing.
Your responsibilities are heavy.
The world around you seems like it’s shaking.

But Psalm 46 reminds us of something powerful:

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

Not distant.
Not delayed.
Present.

Right there in the middle of your questions.
Right there in the middle of your exhaustion.
Right there in the middle of your storm.

The Psalm goes on to say that even if the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the sea… we will not fear.

Why?

Because our stability is not built on circumstances.
It is built on God’s presence.

And sometimes the most powerful instruction in the entire chapter is just three words:

“Be still.”

Still your anxious thoughts.
Still your need to control everything.
Still the pressure to figure it all out today.

God is already standing where you are trying to arrive.

So today, take a deep breath.
Sip slowly.
Let your soul rest in the truth that God is your refuge.

Not just on the good days.
But especially on the heavy ones.

When life feels like it’s shaking around you, remember that your refuge is not the world being stable…
it’s God being unshakable.
