Wild about Downtown

Wild about Downtown Thirty banners, each an original piece of art designed by local artists, will hang from downtown street lights and balconies. Wild about Downtown!

celebrates Louisiana's unique wildlife, captivating waterways and scenic wonders. is a spin-off of the successful Fiddle Mania downtown art exhibit. Opelousas Main Street Inc. will collaborate with local artists to display their one of a kind art work on some 30 banners. The banners will become part of an outdoor exhibit, and the project will help expose thousands of visitors to an outdoor museum

from April to September. The banners will hang from street light poles and balconies around the downtown area. The Wild about Downtown! theme will highlight Louisiana's unique wildlife, captivating waterways and scenic wonders.

Mark you calendar. Sept 23rd we wil announce the winners of the Wild About Downtown Banner Art Exhibit. Winners will be announced at the downtown Music & Market featuring Da Hurricanes.

Meet another artist for Wild about Downtown!...June A. Lowrey, a resident of Washington,LA, is an accomplished artist, author of regional folklore, fashion model, T.V. and radio commercial talent. She now adds her natural talents to the world of jewelry design. Lowrey's collection is exotic, yet tastefully refine. In Sept. 1976 Lowrey presented ...the manuscript and original plates of her first children's book to Dr. Donald R. Foos, dean of the LSU Graduated School of Library Science and Library Director George Guidry. The book, "Ah Ain't Got Nobody (t'go crawdaddin'wit')" was published by Bodemuller in Opelousas. Lowrey is also one of the artists featured at the Country House Art Gallery which is in the historic town of Washington, Louisiana.
