The first episode of Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schimdt’s “The American Revolution” documentary set the stage for the first chapters of the Revolutionary War, examining the circumstances that were boiling up to bring the conflict to a head. Represented in the documentary are voices from all segments of society, including women, enslaved, and indigenous people, as well as British perspectives, showing how the American Revolution was everyone’s story and they all had something worth fighting for.

This episode reminds us that America's fight for freedom was not just decided on the battlefields, but also through shared ideals and everyday acts of courage where ordinary people accomplished the extraordinary!

Many voices together compose our founding history. We invite you to explore a deeper connection to the American Revolution through our DAR genealogical resources and discover your own family story. Explore more at: www.dar.org/DiscoverYourFamilyStory

Tell us in the comments about the Revolutionary War Patriots you’ve discovered in your family history or those who you hope to research to learn more about!

This week as the documentary airs on PBS and we reflect on the extraordinary men and women who shaped our nation, I invite you to share your own genealogical journey. How did you discover you were a descendant of a Revolutionary War Patriot? What inspired you to join ? Your stories connect us all and remind us that history lives through every generation.
If you haven’t yet uncovered your own connection to the founding of America, there’s no better time to begin!

Start your journey of discovery at www.dar.org/DiscoverYourFamilyStory.
Current DAR members, please share this link with anyone who may be interested in embarking on their own genealogical journeys!
