Our latest newsletter is out! 🎉

In this issue, we’re sharing highlights from two recent events at the museum—our Preservationist of the Year award celebration and a wonderful wine tasting fundraiser with a local chef. Both were fantastic evenings supporting historic preservation, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us.

The Opelousas Museum is working on a project called Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods. It is an invitation for residents to document their neighborhoods in their own way. In other words, take pictures with your cell phones. Send them to the museum and your photo may be chosen to be included in a community art show.

One thing to remember is that the project is not seeking a particular point of view. The photo could be uplifting, or the subject matter may be disturbing. An image may evoke a range of emotions. I hope photographers will consider the concepts they want to communicate and how their images can illustrate a sentiment most effectively.
Images are powerful.
The project seeks what's real. That's the point.

Acadian Culture Day is this Sunday, August 10! FREE Festival of everything Acadian, past, present & future. Bring your family and friends and join in the cultural fun! Here's a map of all the festivities: food & craft demos, a Cajun Jam, singalong, Traditions of the Traiteur with Becca Begnaud, Acadian Cultural Heritage Award, great live music from Cameron Fontenot & the Rhythm Aces and Bonsoir Catin, musket demonstration and so much more!
