It was an awesome night for historic preservation as Kitty Greene and John & Margaret Hendricks were presented awards for their efforts in preserving two of Opelika’s most iconic structures. Thank you Kitty, John and Margaret for taking such great care of “Toad Hill” and “The Gingerbread House”!

OHPS is pleased to announce the winners of the 2026 Historic Preservation Awards.
Residential Category - “Toad Hill”- the beautiful home of Katherine “Kitty” Greene
Business Category - Old Timers and Chimers Clock Shop located in the “Gingerbread House”, John and Margaret Hendricks, owners
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, 7pm- Brownfield House- 611 N. 8th Street- Opelika
Come and hear the fascinating stories of two of Opelika’s architectural treasures!
