We are incredibly proud of our SMS Band students for participating in solo and ensemble this past weekend.

Saturday, students traveled to Fox Run and had a total of 44 performances. 34 of which received superior ratings, the highest rating. This triples the number of superior performances from last year!

Thank you to our students for your hard work, and thank you to the families for their continued support! We are building something special!

Support the Sanford Middle School Band!

Our students have kicked off their Popcorn Fundraiser, and we need your help! The SMS Band is working hard to raise funds that help cover things like travel, supplies, and opportunities for our students to perform and grow as musicians.

Every purchase helps support experiences like band trips, honor band events, Solo & Ensemble, and other opportunities that help our students grow both musically and personally.

The Sanford Middle School Band represented our school this week at Music Performance Assessment (MPA) at Auburn High School. At this event, bands perform prepared music for judges and also complete a sight-reading evaluation, where students must perform a piece of music they have never seen before.

Our students earned ratings of 2, 2, 3, and a 1 in Sight Reading, resulting in an overall rating of 2 (Excellent). This is a strong step forward for our program and reflects the hard work our students have put in over the past several weeks.

Preparing for MPA requires a great deal of focus and teamwork. Our students spent many hours learning how to listen, balance, blend, and perform together as an ensemble. We are proud of the way they represented Sanford Middle School both musically and professionally.

A big thank you to the parents and families who came out during the school day to support the band. Your encouragement means a lot to our students and helps build a strong band community.

We are very proud of this group and excited to continue working toward our Spring Concert and the continued growth of the Sanford Middle School Band program.

The Hornet Pep Band is off to an incredible start this season! Our students have brought energy, leadership, and school spirit to every game. They’ve learned how to run their own operations, support each other, and create a fun, welcoming atmosphere for both teams on the court.

What I love most is seeing them grow beyond just musicians—they’re learning responsibility, teamwork, and confidence that will carry them far beyond middle school. From managing equipment to keeping the crowd engaged, these students are taking ownership and showing what it means to represent our school with pride.

We want to give a huge THANK YOU to Mr. Justin Martin for donating his time, tools, materials, and talent to build a new storage shelf for our band room.

Before this, we had no space to safely store our larger instruments. Because of his generosity, we now have organized closet space and more room for our students to make music together.

This project will benefit over a hundred young music students a year, having a larger impact than anyone can know.

Hornet Pride Shines Bright!
This weekend, the Beauregard High School Band—featuring 16 Sanford Middle School rookies—made us proud at the Lake Martin Invitational.

Results:
🏆 Best in Class Band
⭐ Best in Class Dance Line
🎶 Overall Superior
1st Place – Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard, Dance, Majorette, and Band (1-1-1 ratings)

Earning Best in Class Band is a major milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder of our 8th graders for representing Sanford with excellence, discipline, and pride.

The future of the Hornet Band is bright!
