Through our Love Beyond Words program, we recently had the honor of helping make our first official dream come true for an incredible young lady named London Hamilton.
We first met London and her family at our Love In Action Day event. From the moment I met her, I felt a special connection. There was something about her spirit, her strength, and her smile that stayed with me long after the event ended. A few days later, I felt nudged to send her mom, Carley, a friend request on Facebook.
About a month ago, I came across a post Carley had shared. She had asked London a simple question: "If you could do anything this summer, what would it be?"
London's answer was just as simple.
"Stay in an RV by the water."
The moment I read those words, I knew we had to make it happen.
You see, London is no ordinary 13-year-old. At just 9 years old, she was diagnosed with cancer. Since then, she has endured 14 rounds of chemotherapy, a month of radiation, blood infections, multiple broken bones, severe radiation burns, and even lost her ability to walk. Through every challenge, she has continued to fight with a strength and determination that inspires everyone around her.
This past weekend, London and her family spent three nights living out her dream in a brand-new fifth wheel campsite right on the water. We also had the opportunity to take her family out on our houseboat, where we made memories that will stay with us forever.
What impacted us most wasn't the RV or the boat. It was getting to know London. Her courage, resilience, and positive spirit remind us what is possible when someone refuses to give up. By the end of the weekend, she had transformed into both a fisherwoman and a boat captain!
At Love's Reflection, Love Beyond Words exists to create meaningful experiences for children facing extraordinary challenges. Sometimes the dream isn't a trip across the country. Sometimes it's simply staying in an RV by the water with the people you love most.
We are incredibly grateful to have met London and her family. They have already left a lasting mark on our hearts. We look forward to spending more time together as the years unfold. We are also thankful that Carley has graciously offered to volunteer with Love's Reflection, helping other families navigate challenges that she understands all too well.
The world is changed one act of love at a time. This weekend was a reminder that sometimes the smallest dreams create the biggest memories.
This is what love in action looks like.
