Each year, as Memorial Day approaches, messages begin to circulate across social media, email inboxes, and community conversations saying, “Happy Memorial Day.”

It is a familiar phrase, often offered with good intentions. But Memorial Day is not truly a happy occasion.

Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance. It is a day set aside to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who laid down their lives in service to our nation. It is a day to remember that freedom has never been free, and that the liberties we enjoy today were preserved through sacrifice, courage, and loss.

During Police Memorial Week, the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation joins communities across the nation in honoring the brave law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, and the families who continue to carry the weight of that sacrifice.

We are deeply grateful to the friends, family members, neighbors, and community partners who have shared heartfelt condolences, prayers, encouragement, and words of support during this solemn week of remembrance.

At the heart of public service is sacrifice; not only from those who wear the uniform, but also from the loved ones who stand beside them. Police Memorial Week reminds us that behind every name engraved on a memorial wall is a family, a story, a legacy, and a community forever changed.

As an organization committed to building stronger, more resilient communities, we believe remembrance is also a responsibility. We honor our fallen heroes by supporting one another, strengthening the bonds between public servants and the communities they serve, and ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

To everyone who paused to remember, offered kind words, or stood with law enforcement families this week, thank you. Your compassion and support reflect the very spirit of community resilience.

This week, National University recognized D’Andre Lampkin during Public Service Recognition Week for a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, disaster recovery, youth mentorship, community engagement, and resilience-building efforts throughout Southern California and beyond.

While the recognition bears one name, the impact has always been collective.

Every family served. Every student encouraged. Every disaster survivor supported. Every volunteer who showed up. Every mentor who gave guidance. Every community partner who believed in the mission. Every person who refused to give up on their community.

This recognition belongs to all of you too.

At the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation
, we remain committed to building stronger, more resilient communities through service, compassion, collaboration, and action.

And despite the recognition, we know the work is far from over.

Together, we continue showing up.
Together, we continue building resilience.
Together, we continue creating lasting impact.

Thank you to National University for the recognition — and thank you to every person who continues believing in this mission. 🙏🏾

We’re grateful to Charity Journal for featuring the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation’s vision for the Center for Community Resilience.

The article highlights our effort to build a multi-purpose hub in Ontario focused on disaster preparedness, community education, volunteer-driven recovery, food security, and long-term resilience.

This campaign is about more than a building. It is about creating a permanent space where communities can learn from the past, prepare for the future, and strengthen their ability to respond together.

The strength of a community is often revealed in its most difficult moments, and in the people who choose to step forward when it matters most.

Larry Vein was one of those people.

In the aftermath of the Palisades Fire, Larry became a steady and trusted voice for residents navigating uncertainty, loss, and the long road to recovery. He didn’t seek recognition; he sought results. He brought people together, connected resources, and helped restore a sense of direction when it was needed most.

His passing is a profound loss for the Pacific Palisades community.

As we approach May, Mental Health Awareness Month, this moment also calls us to reflect more deeply. Even those who serve others so selflessly can carry unseen burdens. Larry’s story is a reminder that checking in on one another isn’t just important; it’s necessary.

At the Lampkin Foundation, we believe resilient communities are built through connection, compassion, and a shared responsibility to look out for one another, especially in the moments that aren’t visible.

We’ve published an article honoring Larry’s life, his contributions, and his lasting impact on the Palisades community.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Hollywood Forever Cemetery for those who wish to pay their respects.

Let’s honor Larry not only by remembering his work, but by continuing it.

Strong partnerships. Greater impact.

The D'Andre D. Lampkin Foundation is proud to stand alongside organizations that are creating real opportunities for students and families in our community.

Recently, we joined the Esperanza Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars for their Scholarship Awards Orientation—bringing together board members and interns who are committed to one shared mission: expanding access to higher education.

When organizations come together with purpose, the impact multiplies. This is what community collaboration looks like—leaders stepping forward, investing in students, and building pathways to success.

We’re honored to support efforts that uplift the next generation and strengthen the communities we serve.

A moment of unity. A legacy remembered.

Yesterday, leaders from law enforcement, faith, and the community came together at Evergreen Cemetery to honor Deputy Julius Boyd Loving—a pioneer whose service continues to shape the foundation of public safety today.

Pictured here is just a glimpse of that moment. Standing together in reflection and purpose, this image represents the breadth, caliber, and diversity of leadership committed to honoring the past while strengthening the future.

This ceremony was not just about remembrance, it was about responsibility.

Responsibility to carry forward the values of service, dignity, and resilience that defined those who came before us.

At the D’Andre D. Lampkin Foundation, we believe community resilience is built through moments like these, where history, leadership, and community come together in meaningful ways.
