๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐: Kawa Taiko is a non-profit, non-political performance group dedicated to fostering the art of Japanese drumming (taiko) in the Ontario-Boise area. Members work together as a team to preserve the history of taiko, develop our identity and sound, promote cultural awareness, and share the joy we find in all aspects of taiko performance. KAWA TAIKO
Kawa Taiko (KT) was formed in On
tario, Oregon in February 2000 sparked by a performance in Ontario by professional group Portland Taiko in 1999. The group is self- taught, but have attended conferences and workshops in Seattle, Portland, Vancouver BC, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Las Vegas to learn from the masters. Kawa (which means โriverโ in Japanese) Taiko (which means โdrumโ) is a project of the Snake River Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, and operates as a non-profit club. The group likes to have fun and at the same time hopes to educate and entertain the public with a centuries old art form from Japan. The original founders were mothers who wanted to share this culture with their children, but currently the group is comprised of adults from all over the Treasure Valley who are very dedicated to preserving this craft. KT has performed at many events and venues over the years and include: Boise Art Museum, Boise Depot, BSU, Boise Zoo, Idaho Botanical Gardens, Malheur County Fair, Americaโs Global Village, College of Idaho, Hyde Park Street Fair, Indian Creek Festival, and at conventions, schools, and adult living facilities.
