❤️ OLD MAN NIKKO NEEDS A QUIET PLACE TO LAND ❤️
It takes 13 years to get this handsome, this sweet, and this loyal.
Nikko came to us after his owner said she was moving and couldn’t have him at her new apartment. We agreed to take him, expecting we were simply helping an owner who had no other option.
What happened next broke our hearts.
When Nikko was dropped off, we were told he had never been to a veterinarian.
We were also told his owner expected that, at 13 years old, we would probably euthanize him—and she asked for his ashes. She left without shedding a tear.
Nikko is NOT dying. ❤️
He may be a little hard of hearing and his eyesight may not be what it once was, but this old gentleman has plenty of life left and so much love to give.
He’s good with other dogs, fine with cats, and what he really wants is a quiet, comfortable place to spend his golden years with someone who will love him as much as he deserves.
The situation became even more complicated when his owner later wanted Nikko back. We offered to have Nikko completely vetted at our expense. We also offered to have a small puppy she kept at the time she surrendered Nikko vetted and spayed at our expense, with that puppy then going into a home through us.
This was never intended as a “trade” or a demand—it was simply our attempt to make sure both dogs received the veterinary care they had been missing, while also honoring the circumstances under which Nikko had been surrendered.
Ultimately, she chose to keep the puppy.
And so Nikko remains here.
We can’t change what happened to him.
We can’t give him back the 13 years he gave his family.
But we can make sure the next chapter is different.
Nikko deserves someone who looks at his gray face, his slower steps, and his older eyes and sees a dog who is still worth loving.
Because it takes 13 years to get this handsome and sweet. 🥹❤️
Nikko is ready for his forever home.
