Wareham CORE is incredibly honored that the accessible pathway project at Lopes Playground has been featured in the June edition of Parks & Recreation Magazine, the official publication of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

To have this project highlighted in one of the nation’s most respected parks and recreation publications is a wonderful recognition—not only for Wareham CORE, but for the entire Town of Wareham and the many community partners who helped make it possible.

We would especially like to thank Linda Burke for telling the story of this project, and extend our deepest gratitude to A.D. Makepeace Company and Read Custom Soils for their generous donation of stabilized stone dust. Their support has helped create pathways that improve accessibility and allow more children and families to enjoy Lopes Playground together.

This pathway project is the second phase of our ongoing effort to make Lopes Playground a truly inclusive destination for everyone. It reflects the incredible collaboration between local businesses, volunteers, donors, contractors, and community members who continue to believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play.

We are also excited to share that the next phase of the pathway improvements will begin this fall. By waiting until after the busy summer season, we can ensure that the playground remains open for families to enjoy while we continue working toward our long-term accessibility goals.

Thank you to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life and to those who continue to support the future of Lopes Playground.

Wareham CORE was honored to partner with students from the new American Sign Language (ASL) program at Wareham High School to create a special thank-you video in front of the ASL communication board at Lopes Playground.

The communication board was made possible through a Change Maker Grant from United Way and helps create a more inclusive playground where deaf and hearing children can learn, communicate, and play together.

A special thank you to ASL instructor Lisa Olman, Meagan Kashner, and the students who shared their talents and enthusiasm for this project. With 20 students currently enrolled and additional classes planned next year, the ASL program is already making a positive impact in our community.

Thank you, United Way, for supporting accessibility, inclusion, and opportunities for all.

We wanted to share a quick update— all engraved pickets have officially been installed and are ready for viewing at Leonard C. Lopes Memorial Park.

Phase 2 will be starting over the coming months and is not expected to interrupt the playground area.

We’re looking forward to a fun summer ahead ☀️

CORE will be offering engraved pickets as a meaningful holiday gift during Christmas in the Village at the Glen Cove Hotel on December 13th from 12–4 PM. Santa and local vendors will be onsite for a festive community event.

There are limited pickets remaining, and they make thoughtful gifts for grandparents, parents, families, and anyone who loves Onset. Each engraved picket becomes a lasting part of the Leonard C. Lopes Inclusive Playground and supports the addition of new park amenities.
