OAQSA will be holding its 3rd Annual Membership Meeting one week from today, Monday June 22, at 5:30pm. If you are a member of OAQSA, you should be receiving an email with the link to the electronic meeting space this morning.

Would you like to become an OAQSA member for the upcoming 2026-7 year and support our mission of fostering understanding, inclusion, and community throughout our region? The only requirements for voting membership are to be a bona-fide full-time resident of, or own or rent residential property in, Presque Isle County or Cheboygan County; and to pay a $5.00 annual fee.

At last night's Onaway Schools Scholarship and Academic Awards Night, we were privileged to award co-valedictorian 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗻 with this year's Social Merit Welfare Scholarship!

The $500 Scholarship is awarded to an applicant pursuing an accredited degree program in social sciences or humanities. Meredith will be starting a dual major in Political Science and Dance at Wayne State University this fall. Congratulations Meredith!

A 𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 OAQSA Board of Directors meeting has been called for 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟬 at 5pm. This meeting will be electronic only and regards applicants for the OAQSA Social Welfare Merit Scholarship. Any members of OAQSA who wish to join the meeting electronically should send a request to [email protected] by 4pm that day.

The regularly scheduled OAQSA Board of Directors meeting will still take place on 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟳, at 5:𝟯̲𝟬̲pm (please note the change). This meeting will be in-person but with electronic attendance available. Any members of OAQSA who wish to join this meeting should send a request to [email protected] by 4pm that day.

Anyone who is interested in serving for a 3-year term or 2-year term on the Board of Directors should submit their interest to [email protected] by 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟱𝘁𝗵.

One seat for each term length is up for re-election every year. Candidate requirements can be found in our bylaws available by request.

Electronic ballots will be made available on May 29 to all persons who were/are members of OAQSA as of May 1st, and will be tabulated at the annual membership meeting on June 22.

We are pleased to once again offer our Social Welfare Merit Scholarship. You do not have to be q***r to qualify for the scholarship – you just have to be pursuing a college degree in social sciences or humanities! Apply by March 27.

At the request of a community member, OAQSA is proud to share this free, virtual counseling opportunity from Thrive Center for Wholeness. Their 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝘀 𝗠𝗲 online groups provide safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth to connect, express themselves, and receive professional support among peers who understand their experiences. These groups help young people who already identify as q***r to feel seen, valued, and supported — exactly as they are. 💛 You can contact [email protected] for more information.
