We’ve been renamed a Main Street America Accredited Program for the sixth year in a row! 👏

This is a prestigious recognition awarded to programs demonstrating excellence in preservation-based economic development and community revitalization.

As an Advancing Virginia Main Street designated community, Onancock Main Street has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Main Street Approach through strategic partnerships, downtown investment, historic preservation, and support for local businesses and entrepreneurs. This top-tier designation reflects the hard work, vision, and collaboration that continue to make Onancock a thriving destination on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Main Street America Accredited communities gain access to national networking opportunities, technical assistance, advocacy resources, and grant opportunities that help strengthen and grow their downtowns. The designation also recognizes programs that meet rigorous national performance standards in organization, promotion, design, and economic vitality.

Congratulations to everyone who plays a part in making Onancock such a special place to live, work, and visit!

📣We’ve been awarded a marketing grant!

We’re excited to share that Onancock Main Street has been awarded a $20,000 Marketing Leverage Program grant from Virginia Tourism Corporation. We also want to extend our gratitude to the Town of Onancock for its matching contribution of $20,000, which gives us a total of $40,000 dedicated to tourism marketing efforts over the coming year.

This year, our marketing initiatives will focus on increasing website traffic to experienceonancock.com, expanding Onancock’s visibility as a travel destination, and encouraging more overnight stays and visitor spending. By bringing more visitors to town, we hope to support increased sales and opportunities for our small businesses.

We are grateful for the continued support and collaboration of our business community and look forward to another successful year of promoting Onancock as a premier destination on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Our latest business workshop hosted tourism leaders for an inside look at travel trends and visitor data impacting the Eastern Shore and Onancock.

A big THANK YOU to guest speakers Laura Messer, with the Virginia Tourism Corporation, and Megan Lawson, with the ESVA Tourism Commission, for sharing valuable insights, tools, and resources to help our community reach more tourists.

Held at Bizzotto’s Gallery Caffe on May 4, the event also featured raffle prizes for WESR radio advertising packages valued at $600 each.

This event was the last of a series of business workshops funded by a Virginia Main Street Downtown Investment Grant.

Thank you to Bizzotto’s for providing the space and appetizers, and to WESR for sponsoring a portion of our raffle prizes.
