CASA for Kids Our Vision
We believe that all children have a right to be safe and have their voices heard. We value child-centered advocacy, service, and collaboration.

At CASA for Kids, our mission is to promote the best interests of children in abuse and neglect cases by providing court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteers in care and protection proceedings under Chapter 48 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. Our Mission

We value every child's right to a safe and permanent home. We value honesty, integrity, and compassion. We value accountability and commitment. The CASA for Kids Program serves children ages birth to 18 in La Crosse, Vernon and Monroe Counties who have been determined by the court to be Children in Need of Protection or Services. The CASA for Kids volunteer is appointed as an Officer of the Court and assigned to a child under the court’s jurisdiction to provide information regarding the welfare and best interests of that child. A CASA volunteer is not only court-appointed, but a trained and committed adult who ensures that each child's individual needs and their safety remain priorities in our over-burdened child welfare system. A CASA volunteer maintains a positive and consistent presence while supporting and encouraging them. They also gather information from everyone involved in the child's life, in order to make independent and informed recommendations to assist the judge's decision on what is best for the child. A CASA volunteer is more than a volunteer, they are an advocate and the voice for a child in need of protection.

Please help us welcome Patrick Smock to the CASA for Kids team! He joined us in July as our new tri-county case manager.

"I am thrilled to join the CASA for Kids team as a Case Manager! I am very family orientated with kiddos ranging for 8 to 26. I enjoy spending time with them watching the events that are special to them from band and choir concerts to amazing plays they are part of, and even the sports that they cherish, everything from cross country to pole vaulting, but most of all we enjoy going on adventures and traveling. For nearly a decade, my family and I have served as a foster family, eventually moving into treatment level foster care. Through that journey, I have learned firsthand how crucial it is for every child to feel heard, supported, and advocated for."

Brittney Waraxa, our longtime CASA program coordinator's last day is Friday, August 21st. We will be holding a small, "wish you well" to see her off next Friday beginning at 1pm. This will be located at the CASA Office: 704 Sand Lake Rd. Suite 103, Onalaska. We are sad to see her leave but are proud of all she has accomplished, and we know she will continue to do great things.

THANK YOU to Festival Foods for their donation of $1,000 to our "When Can I Be A Kid" fund, which reimburses our volunteer advocates for taking their CASA children to do fun activities and cultivate more positive childhood experiences for them. Our volunteers do so much more than give of their time and this is a great way for our local community to support the important work they do for CASA children!
