Dhamma Takes Root in Veracruz, Mexico

We are happy to share news from a report we recently received: a 10-day Vipassana course took place this past January in Veracruz, Mexico, hosted in a rented venue by a dedicated local team.

42 students gathered in silent practice, supported by 10 staff members and 2 teachers – a quiet effort that made this course possible outside of an established center.

Swipe through the photos to see the students, the kitchen team, and the warm atmosphere they created together.

The VCF is grateful to have supported this course through a grant, made possible by the volition and dana of old students. With deep gratitude and metta to everyone who helped bring it to fruition.

The expansion of Dhamma Neru, Spain's Vipassana centre near Barcelona, is moving forward with quiet, steady progress.

In recent months, a formal agreement was signed with the architect, officially launching the basic architectural project phase. In January, the first physical work took place on the new land - a geotechnical study that confirmed favorable conditions for the planned construction.

The focus over the coming months is completing the architectural project by the end of 2026, obtaining building permits, and beginning the detailed construction plan in phases. Phase 1 prioritises the construction of the two new accommodation buildings, increasing the center’s capacity to host 84 students. The long term vision of Dhamma Neru’s team is to one day welcome a total of 108 students. This is important as it’s offering more students the space and conditions to sit a course in a region where such opportunities are much needed.

May all beings be happy. 🙏

Dhamma Lilha, a Growing Home for Dhamma in Northern Europe

In 2022, the Lithuanian Vipassana Association acquired a countryside guesthouse complex in the Varena district and began transforming it into a home for Dhamma. One year later, through donations, loans, and the service of old students, Dhamma Lilha, meaning the beauty and charm of Dhamma in Pali, hosted the first 10-day course.

In 2025, four new accommodation buildings were completed, bringing the center's residential capacity to 72 students. Each year, over 300 people from Lithuania and abroad come here to practice.

Attention now turns to the renovation of an old farmhouse behind the Dhamma Hall, a future permanent accommodation for two Assistant Teachers, with interview rooms and space for foreign-language discourses. A new roof has already been completed, supported in part by a VCF grant made possible through the volition of old students.

May this center continue to grow and offer conditions for many to walk the path.

Those who wish to learn more or support this project are welcome to do so via the page below, please mention Dhamma Lilha in the donation comment: https://vcf.dhamma.org/donate

In less than twelve months since the first gong sounded at Dhamma Mudita, Austria's first Vipassana center has already offered 13 ten-day courses, with working periods in between. Behind these numbers is the quiet dedication of the local community that has been building toward this for decades.

One recent milestone: the completion of green roofing on the accommodation buildings. This requirement was set by local authorities as a condition for permanent building permission. The photos tell the story well. In the first photo, you can see the surroundings with mystic fog-covered forests from the female walking area. In the next few photos, the roofs of the buildings, first bare, then carrying living plants and substrate made from recycled brick rubble mixed with compost, applied with the help of a mobile crane. In the sixth photo you can see an old student working on the kitchen roof covered in grass. And finally, a photo of the big gong glowing at sunset.

Looking ahead, a Satipatthana course is planned for June, a meaningful next step for this new center.

VCF is grateful to have partnered with this center, helping connect the volition of old students internationally with the continued development of this Dhamma home in the heart of Europe.

Vipassana in the Dominican Republic

A growing community of old students in the Dominican Republic has been meeting regularly for group sittings across the island. These sittings, listed through the dhamma.org app, help sustain practice and connection among students who are geographically dispersed but committed to continuing the technique together.

For many years, Dominican students have traveled abroad to sit 10-day Vipassana courses and deepen their practice. Today, many of these same old students are helping support regular group sittings at home, creating continuity and connection across regions. Vipassana courses have not yet been offered in the Dominican Republic. What is unfolding now represents the early groundwork: steady practice, service, and coordination among students.

A new collaboration between the Dominican Republic Vipassana community and the VCF has made it possible to share these efforts through a dedicated project page. Through this collaboration, VCF will facilitate dana for the community’s activities, including preparations for a 3-day course for old students and a small outreach event.

For old students who wish to learn more about the project, the new page shares additional details about the community’s ongoing work and a way to support: https://vcf.dhamma.org/dominican-republic

VCF serves as a bridge that helps old students direct dana internationally.

Dhamma Kuta, Sri Lanka: An Update from the Hillside

Nestled in the mountains near Kandy, Dhamma Kuta has long offered meditators a rare combination of natural serenity and dedicated practice space. Its steep, forested terrain that makes it so peaceful also makes it vulnerable to the kind of weather Sri Lanka has been experiencing in recent seasons.

The Ditwa Cyclone and the flooding that followed left several embankments in the male residential compound weakened. Following an assessment by qualified engineers, work is now underway to stabilise the hillside with retaining walls careful, necessary groundwork to keep the compound safe for years to come.

With much metta for the community and team at Dhamma Kuta. 🙏

We're grateful to share that VCF has begun a new collaboration with Vipassana Puerto Rico.

In recent months, weekly group sittings have re-established a steady presence of Vipassana on the island. Long-time practitioners and newer old students are practicing together regularly, coordinating locally, and building conditions step by step.

With the volition of old students, VCF is facilitating dana to assist with:

- Modest facility upkeep and preparation
- Course-related costs for 1-day, 3-day, and future 10-day courses
- Outreach and coordination for a stable, long-term presence

A 3-day course for old students took place March 23–27, 2026. A careful step toward potentially hosting longer courses. The local team is also preparing service days to ready a potential course site and plans to introduce Anapana meditation at a university in San Juan.

May these steps help establish a sustainable and accessible presence for future students on the island.

Supporting Dhamma Nandanavana in a Time of Need

Heavy rains have caused damage to the center's facilities. A landslide affected part of the new men's accommodation, a retaining wall collapsed, and flooding has led to further structural weakening.

The local team is responding with dedication and care. Repair and stabilization work is needed so the center can continue serving meditators in the region.

Dhamma Ariya, Costa Rica, is now welcoming new students for the first time.

Thanks to the service and generosity of many old students, meaningful progress continues at Dhamma Ariya, the first Vipassana center in Central America. Last year, the center successfully hosted its first 10-day course for old students, a much appreciated opportunity for meditators in the region to practice together.

Several important infrastructure improvements have been completed with support facilitated through the VCF, based on the volition of old students:

• Reinforcement of the kitchen and dining structure
• Construction of toilets
• A warehouse for tools and equipment to support ongoing work

These developments have laid a strong foundation for the center’s growth. Thanks to this progress, Dhamma Ariya is offering its first two 10-day courses open to new students this month, marking an important milestone for the region. Until now, all courses held at the center had been for old students only.

Attention now turns to the new Dhamma Hall, designed to accommodate up to 50 meditators, an important step toward hosting courses safely and serving more meditators in the region.
