September brings attention to two deeply connected truths: su***de can be prevented, and recovery is possible.

Both require more than telling someone to ask for help. They require communities where support is visible, accessible, and close enough to reach.

Prevention and recovery can look like safe housing, access to healthcare, food and transportation, recovery support, meaningful relationships, and a place to belong. Sometimes, they begin with one person who notices, asks, listens, and stays long enough to help someone find the next step.

At Advance, we help individuals and families navigate barriers and connect with practical resources, care, and community support - before a difficult situation becomes a crisis and throughout the recovery journey.

This month, be the connection:

• Check in with someone and ask, “How are you really doing?”

• If you are concerned about su***de, ask directly and listen without judgment.

• Help someone connect with support instead of expecting them to navigate it alone.

• Call or text 988 for free, confidential crisis support available 24/7.

• Visit advancenw.org for help navigating housing, recovery, healthcare, and other community resources.

One conversation may not solve everything - but connection can change what happens next. 💚💙

Healing does not always look like pushing through. Sometimes it looks like pausing, changing direction, setting a new boundary, or choosing a path that brings you greater peace.

Like a river, you can move differently and still move forward. A detour does not erase your progress or take away from your purpose—it may be guiding you toward the path you need now.

Give yourself permission to flow, adjust, and keep going in the way that feels safest and most supportive for you. 💙

What is one new path you are giving yourself permission to explore?

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting or working with our HCA CEO, here's an introduction to Alexandria (Ali) Desautel.

Ali serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Colville Tribal Health Care Authority (CTHCA). She brings more than 23 years of healthcare leadership experience in Tribal, Federal, and community health systems. Throughout her career, Ali has served in leadership roles across FQHCs, 638 programs, Urban Indian Health and State Medicaid programs. Before becoming CEO, she served as the Executive Director of Lake Roosevelt Community Health Centers, Tribal Liaison for United Health Care, Tribal Health Administrator for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and the Clinic Business Manager at NATIVE Health of Spokane. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from EWU and is passionate about strengthening tribal health care for our people.
“The most rewarding part of my role is working alongside dedicated employees who genuinely care about our Tribal communities. I enjoy helping our team solve problems, creating opportunities for growth, and finding innovative ways to improve healthcare for our people. Every day brings new challenges, but knowing our work makes a difference for Tribal members is what motivates me.
