Dear Endurance Christians,

Paul tells us that affliction produces endurance, that endurance produces character, and that character produces hope all through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus describes the afflictions that his disciples may endure when he empowers them and sends them out to call Israel back to God. Those afflictions may entail discord, conflict, adversity, pain, humiliation, doubt, even despair.

Endurance comes with a commitment to work through those afflictions.

Character comes when our efforts to overcome our afflictions are met with success and improvement, which leads to hope that future afflictions may also produce positive outcomes.

Jesus tells us that the ones to endure to the end will be saved. The saved will be those who act with the same compassion as Jesus has for the lost and haggard folks in the crowd , The compassionate will bring out concord, peace, community, harmony, healing, humility, hope, faith, love and forgiveness.

Discipleship is fraught with afflictions, but if we endure those afflictions could become our greatest triumphs. Amen

Please pray for peace in our homes, communities, and nations. Pray for those who have asked for prayers, pray for those that may need our prayers, and pray for those that no one may be praying for. Let's pray for all those graduating at this time.

Dear Hearers of the Word,

GOD’S WORD IS POWERFUL

God Speaks and the Universe is formed.

God speaks and the Earth and all living things are created.

God Speaks and Noah obeys and fills the Ark

God Speaks and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob listen and heed his voice.

God Speaks and the Israelites are released from Pharoah’s rule,

God Speaks and Moses brings the ten Commandments from the mountain

God Speaks and they follow his voice to the promised land.

God speaks and his voice is seen as a Rainbow, a burning bush, and a pillar of fire.

God Speaks to the prophets, and the kings. And a nation of faith and strength arises.

God speaks and the covenant is forged between God and his chosen people,

God Speaks and the expectation of a Savior is foretold by Isaiah and Micah.

God speaks and the Nation of Israel survives in victory and even in defeat,

God speaks and his word became flesh and dwelt among us.

A word so powerful that it could heal the sick and raise the dead.

A voice so powerful that people walked for miles to hear it.

God’s Word speaks and all are amazed at his wisdom and power.

God’s Word is so powerful that even a frail woman stretching to just touch his clothing is healed and her long suffering is over.

God speaks and his Word suffers and dies for us on a cross,

God speaks and his Word is raised from the grave to defeat death forever.

God speaks and his Word becomes a living being full of love, compassion, and power.

God Speaks and the Word sends his most Holy Spirit to guide us for eternity.

God’s Word is Jesus Christ, the perfect man, and God on the Earth for us all.

If our voice could become flesh, what would our person be like? Would our voice create a person of peace, compassion, and wisdom. Would our voice heal, or sow discord?

Would our voice and our words be worthy of the frail, the weak, and the marginalized to reach out to us, just to touch our clothes to find wholeness and well-being?

If our words could become flesh, What would our words create? Amen. Shalom, Shalom

Please continue to pray for peace in our nations, our communities, and in our homes. Please pray for all those who are graduating from educational and trade programs that if they dedicate their work to God, it becomes ministry and service to others.

Dear Trinitarians,

Welcome to Trinity Sunday, the day that confuses us all and steeps us in the mystery of the triune God; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Please don't get your knickers in a twist about the word "Father." I use it because Jesus called the Godhead "Father." But if you want top refer to God as Great Spirit, Grandparent, Mother, etc., go for it. God has big shoulders and can handle it. God is just glad you want a relationship with "the Love that guides the universe. "

It's easy to examine the three persons in the trinity one at a time. We can Examine the God of creation, the Christ of redemption, and the Spirit of inspiration separately. Easy peasy. But the relationship of the three is very difficult to understand. But aren't all relationships difficult to understand?

Human relationships are very difficult to comprehend, quantify, or describe. The divine relationship of one-in-three and three-in-one is even more complex than human relationships. What is important is that there is a relationship and we are part of it.

We are in a relationship with God that is interactive, mysterious, and eternal. Our role is not to understand the mystery but to participate in it.

To love God is to honor the relationship, to love each other is to honor the relationship. Amen

Dear Followers of the Holy Spirit,

Today we celebrate the birth of the church, the community called forth by God. On Pentecost Sunday we are reminded that we are to carry on the life of Jesus Christ in the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the day we become responsible for the mission of the church. That mission is to make disciples of all nations, give comfort and peace to the world Through the sharing of the good news, and to take care of our brothers and sisters, especially the disenfranchised.

I want to emphasize the unique gifts and talents that have been given to each and every one of us. Every person on this earth is given unique attributes by the Holy Spirit. Everyone is important to the body of Christ, and everyone has something to contribute to the welfare of the world and the church.

Some people are given a variety of gifts that they use at different times in their lives, and others may be given one gift that they used throughout their lives. Every one of us is important to the body of Christ and to discern what the gifts that God has given us our and to use them to build, nurture, and serve the kingdom of God on this earth.

On this day of Pentecost, we are called to invoke the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can be of use to continue Christ’s work. Amen

Please pray for peace in our world and give thanks today, on this Memorial Day, for those who fought and died so that we might be free.

Dear Visionary Christians,

Stephen sees a vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of its Father as he is being stoned to death. In his last breaths he forgives his murderers, even Saul, who is present and approving of this horrendous act.

Peter tells us we are God's people and we live in his light and that Jesus is the cornerstone of our lives.

John goes even further. He tells us that the Father is building rooms for us in heaven and that the way to those rooms is through Jesus, the way, the truth and the life.

So, we can extrapolate that Heaven is real in Stephen's vision, that it is a place where we bask in the marvelous light of Jesus in the rooms prepared for us by the Father. Heaven is a place where need and desire cease and peace and contentment are eternal. and we know the Way. Amen

Dear Easter People,

For those of us that have small gas engines that sit idle during the winter months, Seafoam is an additive that cleans, energizes, and restores the old fuel to fresh condition. The Easter season is like Christian Seafoam. This season reinvigorates us, renews, and restores us. It is the reason we exist as a people, as a church, and as community called forth by God to build the Kingdom on earth.

Blackberries grow on canes that last two years and then die. Those canes were fruited abundantly during those two years. As the finish their second year, new canes come to take their place. Christians do the same. We live and build the Kingdom and when our time passes away, new disciples must be raised to continue the work. Thankfully, our work has a much greater longevity than berry canes! But the principle of replacement remains true.

During this Easter season, allow the accounts of the Resurrection to bathe us in faith and renewal. We can use this time to reaffirm, restore, and build our faith, so it remains strong throughout the year. It is this faith that gives us the courage and ability to invite, instruct, and establish new members in the Faith. It is called "The Great Commission." It is our greatest responsibility as Christians; to ensure the continuation of Christianity until the end of time. Amen

Please continue to pray for peace in our world, in our nation, in our communities, and in our families. Please pray for those who have asked for prayer, those that need our prayers, and those who may have no one praying for them.

Enjoy this Easter season and the warmth and beauty of Spring.

Dear Easter People,

In today's readings we hear from Acts, Peter, and John regarding the reality of the resurrection of Christ Jesus. These witnesses are not arguing with detractors or trying to prove that Jesus was raised from the dead. They are simply proclaiming it. It is information that they want all men and women to hear. They are not demanding people to believe with some implied threat that if they don't believe bad things will happen, as some preachers do today. No. They are offering information and an invitation to others to believe in the risen savior sent by God to redeem the world and to offer them the promise of eternal life. That invitation clearly was received by many and many continue to accept that invitation today.

The question for us today is a simple one: Are we continuing to send out invitations in our churches, in our relationships, in our social media, and our casual conversations to come and learn of the risen savior and his promise and invitation to continue the building of the kingdom of heaven here and in the next life? It's a great invitation and well worth sending out. Amen.

Please continue to pray for an end to all wars and to advocate for an earth filled with peace, charity, justice, and mercy. Please pray for those in health care facilities who are recovering, or undergoing treatment, or in rehabilitation, or in end of life care. Pray for those in recovery programs for addiction, for those with chronic mental or physical health issues and those who care for them.

Please thank God for the beauty of spring, the promise of blossoms and new growth, and the renewal of the Earth. We are reminded by the astronauts who are safely back on the Earth, that we are all in this together in this small and fragile planet floating in this huge universe.

Dear Easter People,

Today I read from both John and Matthew's version of the resurrection of Jesus. There are remarkable dissimilarities between the two accounts. This is not proof that the story isn't true, it is proof that the event was so stupefying that no one could really get their minds around it. All of the accounts are consistent in that Mary Magdalene is prominent in each and that the tomb is empty and their are divine beings featured in each account - sometimes one, sometimes two.

I encourage you to read all four accounts of the resurrection accounts and see how each evangelist tried to explain the unexplainable.

I believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb. I believe not because of the four accounts of the gospels, and not because of the accounts of Jesus' appearances after the resurrection. I believe in the resurrection because of the actions of the disciples after the resurrection.

Their leader was put to death as a criminal. In any other time, the followers would have gone into hiding or just sort of blended back into society and disappeared. They would have dispersed in shame and embarrassment in ignominy.

But that is not what happened! They stepped up! They risked arrest, humiliation, and derision. They proclaimed Jesus as the risen savior. Only something as powerful of the resurrection explains the actions and risks of the disciples of Jesus after his death. They proclaimed Jesus as risen savior in their towns, marketplaces, synagogues, and beyond their city limits and familiar places. They went to unfamiliar and faraway places to spread the Gospel. That's why I believe and will continue to believe. Their actions were far greater than their words.

The question we must ask ourselves is, are our actions stronger than our words? Will our actions inspire others to follow Christ? I hope so.

Please continue to pray for peace in our world. Please pray for the four astronauts going to the far side of the moon for their safe return.

Dear Children of Abraham,

The children of Abraham are the followers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In today's readings we see God's interaction with Abraham and the seeds of the beginning of our faith. It is Abraham's relationship with God that is the seminal event of belief in Yahweh and the launch pad of three major world religions.

Paul's letter to the Roman's distinguishes the difference between Judaism and Christianity that explains the difference from following the works of the law and following Jesus Christ in faith.

The Gospel of John, a stage play meant for evangelization and converts to the faith, features the scene of Jesus and Nicodemus discussing that a person must be reborn of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God. This passage is a clear allusion to the catechumens who are preparing to be baptized in the water and the Spirit at Easter.

This is the Sunday to reflect on what our own baptism means to us and our inclusion in the the family of God and the Christian church. It is a day to pray for those preparing for baptism and reception into the church and for those re-entering the Christian faith. It is a day to remember our own dedication to our faith and our baptism by water and the Spirit. Amen.

Please pray for peace in the Middle East, Ukraine, Venezuela, and anywhere there is conflict, oppression, and tyranny. Please pray for all those who have asked for our prayers, those that need our prayers, and those who no one may be praying for.

Dearest Children of the Savior,

In today's readings we hear of the sin of Adam and Eve, a Psalm of God's forgiveness, the story of Jesus' temptation in the desert, and Paul's comparison of the sin of Man with the salvation of Christ.

where one man brings sin; Jesus brings grace. Where on man bring death; Jesus brings life. Where one man brings condemnation; Jesus brings salvation. Where one man brings trespass; Jesus brings righteousness. Where one man is disobedient; Jesus is obedient. And through the obedience of Jesus we are all free.

What does this mean for us? It means that our one life is meant to be life-giving. Our one life is meant to be lived in abundant grace. Our one life is meant to be lived righteously. And our one life is meant to be lived in obedience to God. And through our obedience to God we are set free. It is the great paradox or Christianity that we find perfect freedom in our obedience to God's will. Amen

Please continue to pray for peace in our world. Pray for the inflicted and the lost. Pray for those preparing for baptism at Easter.

May you have a holy and blessed Lent.
