True Potential Scholarship Our mission: Helping young immigrants achieve their true potential through quality, affordable education.

The The True Potential Scholarship began by focusing on creating opportunities for young immigrants who have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) and Temporary Protective immigration Status (TPS) and later expanded to include all immigrants. These individuals are not eligible to receive any public benefits, including federal financial aid and many scholarships. The idea for this scholarship was born out of experience. Ross & Karen Pesek, the founders of this program, were able to attend college because of the generosity of others. Ross attended Central Community College, Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska College of Law over seven years, all in scholarships. Karen attended Central Community College and Wayne State College also with a scholarship. Ross and Karen recognize that without the support and generosity of scholarship donors, reaching for their True Potential would have been a lot more challenging. For this reason, when they saw an opportunity to help others obtain quality, affordable education, they established the True Potential Scholarship program. Today, Ross is a bilingual trial attorney and President of Pesek Law, LLC, where Karen also works as the Director of Finance. The law firm serves Spanish speaking individuals that are victims of the negligence of others, taking these cases to trial when necessary. Since starting Pesek Law in 2014, Ross and Karen have dedicated much of their efforts towards helping others in their community through a Free Legal Clinic and the South Omaha Business Improvement District. The author shares her experience as a volunteer interpreter interviewing undocumented children, highlighting how a rigid and dehumanizing U.S. immigration system can turn a humanitarian crisis into a complicated legal process.

Last Friday, we joined our partners at Northeast Community College for their annual Opportunity Summit.

More than 100 high school students came together from across Nebraska to learn, connect, and discover new possibilities for their futures.

Thank you, NCC, for bringing students from communities like West Point, Lexington, Hastings, Madison, and many more together and helping them see what opportunities are out there. We’re always happy to be part of conversations that encourage students to keep learning and step into their true potential!

El viernes pasado, tuvimos la oportunidad de acompañar a nuestros socios de Northeast Community College en su Cumbre anual- Opportunity Summit.

Más de 100 estudiantes de preparatoria de diferentes partes de Nebraska se reunieron para aprender, conectar y descubrir nuevas posibilidades para su futuro.

Gracias, NCC, por reunir a estudiantes de comunidades como West Point, Lexington, Hastings, Madison y muchas más, y por ayudarles a conocer las oportunidades que existen para ellos.
