We get it. Hearing about another new, dangerous synthetic drug is exhausting. "Warning fatigue" is real, and the community is tired of feeling hyper-vigilant. But we cannot afford to stop paying attention now.

Public health officials have issued warnings about Cychlorphine, an unregulated synthetic opioid making its way into the illicit drug supply. It is reportedly up to 10 times more potent than fentanyl and is being pressed into counterfeit pills made to look like legitimate prescriptions (such as Xanax, Adderall, or OxyContin).

The landscape of substance misuse is shifting fast, but our commitment to protecting Omaha won't tire out. Stay alert, stay prepared, and look out for one another. 💛

A negative test result doesn’t guarantee a drug is safe. Learn more, and keep naloxone (Narcan) nearby. You may need more than one dose; some overdoses require several.

N-Propionitrile Chlorphine (also known as Cychlorphine) is an emergent, highly dangerous synthetic opioid.

Here is what our community needs to know:
⚠️ Extreme Potency: Laboratory data shows that Cychlorphine is approximately 10 times more potent than fentanyl.

⚠️Hidden Danger: It is appearing in unregulated drug markets as a powder or tablet, both on its own and mixed with traditional drugs like fentanyl, he**in, methamphetamine, and co***ne.

⚠️Rising Overdoses: Forensic analysts have noted a sharp increase in fatal drug overdoses linked to this substance across at least 8 U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinces.

Signs of Toxicity:
Like other powerful synthetic opioids, the primary adverse effect is severe respiratory depression (slowed or stopped breathing), which can quickly become fatal.

💡 How to Protect Our Community:
• Because of Cychlorphine's extreme potency, multiple doses of naloxone (Narcan) and/or immediate emergency medical intervention may be required to reverse an overdose.
• Ensure your loved ones, first responders, and community leaders are aware of this emerging threat.
