https://forms.gle/Aop3AYrgVumHqpHK8

Bring the conversations social work needs.
Bring the skills we should be sharing.
Bring the ideas helping us move forward.
Bring the conversations social work needs.

SWAC Social Work Summer Summitt is a live virtual experience rooted in what connects social workers across systems: our generalist foundation, commitment to justice, and ability to practice across the complexity of the times we are in.

We are looking for proposals that are grounded, honest, relational, justice-centered, and connected to the realities of practice right now.

Let’s practice across. Together.

Social Workers for Justice is organizing a national conversation, an organizing conversation to oppose the Department of Education's Decision to make the MSW and the DSW a "graduate" degree not a "professional degree". Impacting funding, access to education, and ultimately the mental health workforce. Here is what they said:

"The Department has determined that MSW and DSW would not meet the professional degree definition because neither degree is generally required to obtain an entry-level licensure in the social work field or to begin work in a profession. A person may obtain work as a social worker after earning a bachelor’s degree. Most states license BSW holders as certified social workers, making the baccalaureate level degree the one necessary to begin practice in the social work profession. In addition, individuals who are licensed with a BSW may later obtain an MSW with only one year of additional coursework, for a total of five years of education compared to six years as provided for in the professional degree definition."

Starting July 1, 2026, federal policy changes will eliminate Grad PLUS loans for new borrowers and impose strict caps on MSW student borrowing. At the same time, social work is being reclassified in ways that diminish the value of our profession.

Let’s be clear: This will prevent people from entering the field and ultimately, deplete the social work workforce.

At a time where there are already workforce shortages, these changes will make it almost impossible for many aspiring social workers to access MSW education. The impact will fall hardest on first-generation students, women, and students of color who make up a vast majority of the workforce.

If we do not act, we risk shrinking this profession in ways that will have lasting consequences for the communities we serve.

You may not see the full impact of your work. But you will absolutely be part of the chain that makes it possible.

Someone else will pick up where you left off. Because someone picked it up before you.

That is the quiet contract of social work and the realities of social justice work: We do not abandon the work just because we won’t be the ones to finish it.
We build anyway. It is who we are.
