We cannot wait for our SONA Candidate Forum this coming Thursday!

Community members are invited to this candidate forum to learn about statewide and local candidates. Bringing candidates and their priorities is central to SONA's commitment to educating our neighbors on their future elected officials.

Candidates from both major parties for the following seats have been invited:

Nebraska Governor
Nebraska Attorney General
Nebraska Secretary of State
Douglas County Sheriff
Douglas County Attorney
OPPD Board of Directors District 2
University of NE Board of Regents District 4

Find out what each office does and its impact on our community. While we will have questions for each candidate, we also want to make it an opportunity to know each candidate on a personal level. Enjoy snacks, drinks, and good conversation with candidates and the community. We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday, October 1st.

✅️ Last week, your Omaha Latino Firefighters were at Upland Park fulfilling our mission to build and strengthen community bonds.

With the help and partnership of the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, Canopy South and the South O Boys and Girls Club, along with our sponsors, we were able to honor that mission.

We wanted to bring it back to basics by giving away bikes, skateboards, and helmets to kids aged 5-15 from the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. It also gave us the chance to engage with the youth and families in a non-emergent setting.

As firefighters, we show up for the city on shift, on duty, 24/7, 365 days a year. By hosting events like these, we just want it to be known we care for Omaha off the job too.

✅️ La semana pasada, sus bomberos latinos de Omaha estuvieron en Upland Park cumpliendo nuestra misión de construir y fortalecer los lazos comunitarios.

Con la ayuda y la asociación de South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, Canopy South y South O Boys and Girls Cub, junto con nuestros patrocinadores, pudimos honrar esa misión.

Queríamos devolverlo a lo básico regalando bicicletas, patinetas y cascos a niños de 5 a 15 años del club de niños y niñas de Omaha del Sur. También nos dio la oportunidad de relacionarnos con los jóvenes y las familias en un entorno no emergente.

Como bomberos, nos presentamos a la ciudad en turno, de servicio, 24/7, los 365 días del año. Al organizar eventos como estos, solo queremos que se sepa que también nos preocupamos por Omaha fuera del trabajo.

Thank you to South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance! They have awarded us our first grant! We look forward to giving it right back to the community, stay tuned! 😉😏

As part of our commitment to the Omaha community, we offer the SONA Mini-grant to entities and non-profits as our way to impact neighborhoods and enrich the experiences of neighbors and those who live outside of our boundaries. We do this by promoting such things as safety projects, historical preservation, community building, health initiatives, cultural awareness, and promotion of family and children-based programs.

We are very happy to announce our SONA Spring/Summer Mini-grant award winners:
