Recently, we had the opportunity to provide one month of gas assistance to a grandfather who has been traveling back and forth between Omaha and Lincoln to support his 11-year-old grandson and their family during an unimaginable crisis.
Since July 24th, their family has been living one day at a time in the hospital as this young boy fights to recover from severe burns covering 40% of his body. What began as experimenting with a dangerous social media trend sometimes referred to as the “TikTok burn challenge” resulted in a tragic accident that left him with third-degree burns on both legs and burns to his arms, back, stomach, groin, lips, and nose. He is now undergoing extensive treatment, including skin graft surgeries.
His road to recovery will be long, but it is a miracle he is alive. ❤️
While his mom is focused on being by his side through every treatment, surgery, and difficult step forward, his grandfather is doing everything he can to support the family. We were honored to help ease one small burden by covering the cost of gas so he can continue making those trips and being present when his family needs him most.
This is why our Transportation Grant Program exists. Sometimes transportation assistance is about so much more than getting from Point A to Point B. Sometimes, it helps a grandfather stay close to his grandson during the fight of his life.
