Andy has been coming to the coffee garage for years. Though he has had many struggles during his life, he is still so full of faith, hope, and love. Recently, his father fell ill and was in the hospital. We were able to take him to visit his father before he passed away. Andy really appreciated that.
The funeral for his father was beautiful and we were privileged to be there to support Andy.
Please keep Andy and his family in your prayers, especially during the holiday season.

Andy has come such a long way! Please continue to pray for him and the repose of his father, Carl.

This Thanksgiving, Hope of the Poor shared a warm meal and even warmer company with our friends on the streets. Over 130 plates served with love! None of this would’ve been possible without our incredible volunteers—thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Like it or not, cellphones have become essential in today’s world—not just for staying connected, but for accessing opportunities and navigating life’s challenges. For those experiencing hardship, the lack of a cellphone can be a major barrier to stability.

Take Bryant, an able-bodied man who was once homeless. Earlier this year, despite a clean record and a solid work history, he struggled to find a job. Why? Employers couldn’t reach him because he didn’t have a cellphone. A simple device stood between him and a fresh start.

Then there’s Josh, Jeff, and Dave, who face daily struggles without a phone. Communicating with caseworkers to access services? Nearly impossible. Figuring out bus routes to get to appointments? A constant headache. Scheduling a DMV visit to get an ID? A logistical nightmare. These challenges pile up, making it harder to break free from hardship.

That’s why we’re thrilled to share that, thanks to our friend Jon, we’re able to utilize a program to provide free cellphones plans to those in need. This initiative is a game-changer, helping people like Bryant, Josh, Jeff, and Dave access jobs, services, and opportunities.

What a fantastic day serving coffee at our Independence Day celebration! Heartfelt thanks to Jess and her family, the Hansen crew, Dave Beck, and Kevin Dean for making this event unforgettable for so many. The cookies and freezer pops were a crowd favorite, and everyone loved the vibrant, festive decorations!

We also made a difference today by helping a few friends get much-needed cell phones—essential in today’s world! Plus, we provided a couple of shirts and purchased more unique bottles and jars from our resident Historic-Omaha Archeologist, Jeff. And, of course, we kept everyone refreshed with coffee, cocoa, and water.
