IBEW Local 1483 allows employees to have a voice in the workplace. We negotiate our collective bargaining agreement (contract) with OPPD and stand for fair wages, benefits and term/conditions of employment. This includes (but not limited to)contract language for retirement pension, 401/457 K plan, vacation, holidays, overtime, sick leave, and healthcare. Contract enforcement avenues include our ne
gotiated grievance process and binding arbitration; the Commission of Industrial Relations (CIR) and District Court. We also have presented a case before the Nebraska Supreme Court pursuing the best interests of IBEW 1483 and the members we proudly represent. Our officers and executive board are elected by our membership. Elections take place every three years. Any member in good standing is eligible to run for these elected positions. Important actions IBEW 1483 engages in are done so by discussion at executive board monthly meetings, as well as our monthly general membership meetings. The elections of leaders in IBEW 1483 is done so through democracy. This is a bedrock principle of all labor unions.
