Next up is Les Robbins.
Les Robbins - LSE Class of 1973
Les Robbins, a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting), has built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant and entrepreneur. Beginning his professional journey in 1978 as a staff accountant with Fry, White & Guszak, CPAs, Les quickly advanced in the field, becoming the first non-founder shareholder at Lutz in 1986. He later served as a shareholder at Darst & Associates before launching his own firm, Robbins Consulting, in 1998. Over more than four decades, Les has provided accounting, tax, and consulting services across industries including agribusiness, construction, healthcare, and closely-held businesses, demonstrating both technical expertise and strategic business leadership.
In addition to his professional work, Les has been a passionate entrepreneur and mentor, sharing his knowledge with students and professionals to illustrate the diverse career paths an accounting degree can offer. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence have earned him recognition in his field, including authoring his memoir, The Road Les Traveled, published in 2024.
Les has also been incredibly generous with his time, expertise, and financial support for students at Lincoln Southeast High School and the Southeast community. Together with his wife, Melanie, he founded the Robbins Family Charitable Foundation, which provides scholarships and support for University of Nebraska–Lincoln accounting students. Numerous Southeast graduates have benefited from this opportunity, reflecting Les’s dedication to helping students succeed and pursue their educational and professional goals.
Beyond philanthropy, Les has dedicated considerable time to community and civic service. He served as Volunteer Chief Financial Officer for Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries for over a decade, helping expand assets, eliminate debt, and strengthen the organization, earning the Vocation Award in 2023 for living out his calling. He has held leadership roles with Rejoice! Lutheran Church, the Rotary Club of Omaha-Millard, Armbrust Acres Homeowners Association, Fremont County Economic Development Corporation, and various Lutheran Men in Mission initiatives. He has also coached youth sports and contributed to financial oversight in local boards and improvement districts.
Les and Melanie Robbins are proud parents of four children and ten grandchildren. Les credits his high school accounting teacher, Mr. Nielson, for inspiring his lifelong passion for accounting, emphasizing precision, integrity, and balance—qualities that have defined both his professional career and his extensive community and philanthropic contributions. Through his career achievements, civic engagement, and generosity toward Southeast students and the broader Nebraska community, Les Robbins exemplifies leadership, service, and dedication.
