"Dear Friends and Extended village:

We have reached that time of year again, in honor of Brother Malcolm X during his birthday month, where we get to witness the support and recognition of fellow servants in our community doing important work. While our society is going through multiple layers of stress, unfathomable circumstances around communal health, and up against constant warfare for our collective mental well-being; there still remain diligent human beings who allow themselves to be vessels for healing and progress. This year we are honoring their resiliency and dedication at our Malcolm X Legacy Banquet and Community X Awards on Sunday, May 31st.

Nominations for these courageous souls are open until tomorrow, Friday, May 22nd at 11:59 pm. You can follow this link to acknowledge someone who is passionate and deserves continued encouragement for their efforts here:
https://form.jotform.com/261336389712058

Furthermore, we want to make sure to honor them in person so if you did not get your ticket yet to the dinner, please do so! Registration options are detailed below and it closes on May 29th. We have two individual ticket options & two sponsorship table options. Details are here: Bit.ly/MXBanquet2026

As some might be soon going into vacation mode, we must remember that there’s still a lot of work to be done to prepare or recalibrate our efforts for social justice. There are also many others who work tirelessly and sacrifice so much of their time as advocates, activists, cultural workers, caregivers, and laborers — to not only take care of their own families, but the extended village as well. We need them! Let’s consider what could happen if we encourage each other just a little bit more? Brother Malcolm would in fact be working directly with the people who are making a real impact, and these are the people who I look forward to personally embracing at the banquet. See you there! "

With Gratitude & Support —

Are you curious about parking reform here in Omaha? Mark your calendars for this upcoming event to join in on the conversation!

🗓️ Monday, May 18th at 6:00 PM
📍 Fabric Lab - 2514 N. 24th St., Omaha, NE 68110

💭 Why should you join community conversations like this?

🏙️ As the Urban Core Committee states, “As Omaha looks to the future, the question becomes “what does the community need to do to not only prepare for the future, but also to elevate Omaha to the next level as one of the country’s most desirable big cities.”

🚙 We believe that parking reform is one positive step towards envisioning the future of Omaha. Your participation as community members in this conversation is pivotal to ensure that we are implementing equitable community engagement practices as noted by Heartland 2050’s plan, which involves reaching out to the community members who are most affected by the development project, and to actively center the needs and vision of the communities who have been historically excluded from planning processes — especially people of color, immigrants, low-wealth renters, people with disabilities and those with other marginalized identities (Heartland 2050).

👋 By participating in local community discussions, such as parking reform, you help to enrich Omaha’s future planning while staying informed on what is currently going on!

See you on Monday! ✨

🚮💡This is not only a path for community health, culture and revitalization, it’s also a clean-air corridor!🌬️

Stretching approximately 8 miles when completed, the North Omaha Trail will provide a safe and accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists. This project is more than just a path—it’s a catalyst for community engagement, economic development, improved quality of life, and environmental justice. Interested in assisting our cause by keeping the trail clean? Join us or for future events!

As a Clean-Air Corridor, the North Omaha Trail aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and enhance climate resilience in our community. Through innovative design and community education, we’re creating a green artery that will help our city breathe easier.

We hope to see you at the next community cleanup! All are welcome. 🗑️💚🚶‍♀️🌳🚶‍♂️💚🗑️

We Make Omaha is building the City of Omaha’s new comprehensive plan to guide growth & development decisions for the next 20 years. For the past two years, we’ve engaged with over 7,000 community members to build a shared vision for the future. We want to hear from you as we build the final plan to deliver that vision.

We’ve built the Future Lab - a FREE pop-up community engagement exhibit - to explore four potential future scenarios to guide the final plan. We need your input to help build a custom scenario to deliver the community’s shared vision for our future on important topics such as housing, transportation, accessibility, health, safety, and more.

We Make Omaha: Future Lab
📍6470 Frances St, Suite 118 (map)
🗓️ Open May 1 - May 31
⏰ Wed 12-7pm, Thurs 12-8pm, Fri 12-7pm, Sat 12-4pm, Sun 10-2pm

Participants will walk through the experience at their own pace, viewing videos showing what growth might look like in Omaha. After viewing the videos and learning about the scenarios, participants will record the outcomes that matter most to them, the places they want to see growth, and the scenario that resonates most with them. Visitors will also have a chance to view engagement from the entire process - from visioning to community asset mapping to scenario building - to see how community engagement has guided and influenced the plan set to be delivered at the end of the year. All ages are welcome at Future Lab with kids activity area available.

Can’t make it in person? The experience is available online here!
